Gibbs has been better defensively than any other LB this season as far as i'm concerned.

Shaw has been very good going forward and created a lot for his team mates but nowhere near Gibbs defensively.

Defenders should be judged primarily on their defensive skills, not their key passes

If I wanted my LB to playmake i'd play a playmaker there ffs

I judge fullbacks on both defence and attack.

Yeah defence is important.. no f*cking shit!

So, if what a full back offers in the final 3rd is superior to a better defensive full back that makes him superior, right?

Dat dere FIFA logicz

Id rather have a full back that is good on defence and good on attack, than one that is very good on defence and non existent on attack. (or very good on attack but non existent on defence)

That's fine so long as defence is prioritised.

lmfao @ calling Gibbs "non-existent in attack" Laughing He has the same amount of assists as Luke Shaw in the league (has 2 assists in all comps) and, if we're going by whoscored stats, Gibbs has a better pass succession percentage (79.3% comparedto 78.6) as well as better defensive stats overall and even has a goal to his name :coffee:

Seriously, Gibbs is being vastly underrated here

All I can say is in the handful of games that I watched shaw he was a better outlet than gibbs. Keeps the ball under pressure and can play forward incisively.

Sorry but game after game gibbs gives our attack nothing. Even forgetting about crossing he cant do jack on the ball, moment someone closes him down its either go backwards or hoof it

Aguero not being in there in spite of being the best player (and most effective) for one of the league contenders is an absolute travesty. Surely he's had a better year than Sturridge, or they could have made space for 3 forwards?

Aguero has missed too many games. He'd be battling with Suarez for player of the year if he wasn't so injury prone.

I haven't seen much of Shaw this season tbh...
Well I watch a lot of PL games included Southampton games, but I never seemingly keep an eye on him. So comparing him and Gibbs might not be for me.

But one things I can say about Gibbs, is that he has been our most improved player this season. He has upped his game and cemented his place as number 1 LB in our team and now he is an important part in our defense. He's been really good.
But on the attacking front, I agree with DTW. How many times has Gibbs gotten into attacking positions on the overlap and put in a bad cross. Countless times, I say.
Our wingers and fullbacks can't cross, and that's something which frustrates me a lot. We definitely could create more chances if they worked on their crossing.
Other than Sagna slightly improving at it and Walcott who's only good at low crossing, we suck ass at it.

De Gea is so *bleep* overrated. He's been mediocre all season, no game saving moments or matches. Poor statistics as well.

Cech has been been way better and more reliable. If you were going to give it to someone other than Cech it would be David Marshall.

Agree about Marshal , personally I'd voted the Cardiff's GK but Cech is okay anyway .Just surprised for BC partnership,I was sure to see Terry-Mertesacker lol Metrs was great in first half season, he pays probably those results in big games against Chelsea and Liverpool but the whole Arsenal was bad in those two situatuons
