Re: Congratulations to Atletico Madrid winning La Liga 13/14
Courtois isn't that relevant. It makes a small difference because Moya wasn't even meant to be first choice before the season started and now he is and he is not on the same level as Courtois but that's a small detail. Their defensive record is more or less the same. Last season 21 goals conceded in 27 games, this season 23 goals in 27 games. Chelsea's defensive record has also not changed much with Courtois. Last season 22 goals conceded after 28 games, this season 23. Little to do with individual personnel. Last season they were running on fumes, grinding out 1-0 after 1-0 which was never sustainable, especially after winning stuff and dropping down to 99 % intensity instead of 100 %, which inevitably happens to all winning teams.

They gave Real Madrid a beating to remember so their fans (I am highly assuming here) would be content with just UCL qualification. Also, no more jammy 1-0 wins, loss in intensity, injuries, player sales and an actual improvement in game play from other teams ensured it was gonna be a harder time to defend their title.

Agree with Doc. That intensity can't be kept up and other teams have figured them out. Th intensity is the big thing. After hearing Simeone repeat the smae things the players must be tired and less inspired.

thats not a small detail when a team aiming at winning 1-0 week in week out...

i think in the end, what Simeone used to say is true. his team cant compete vs the likes Barca, R.Madrid for long time...

Yeah but it's not like they won 1-0 by giving up chances and relying on Courtois to bail them out. Courtois averaged 1.6 saves per game last season. As a comparison. That's what Bravo is facing this season and everyone agrees Bravo had pretty much nothing to do apart from 2 games. It's also less than what Chelsea is conceding this season. 2 of Atleti's last 3 games were 0-0s which last season would have been 1-0s. What's another goalkeeper going to change? Clean sheet is a clean sheet. lol

and one of them 1-1
Courtois conceieded 24 goals last season with an average of 0.65 , was a zamora winner. Moya already concieded 23 goals in 27 games, not even second in Zamora race and need to meet our attacking trio one more time to beautify his profile .
Anyway, i think goalkeepers matter for a team like Chelsea and A. Madrid whose one of the main idea is score less and conceide less. Not like Barca who can survive with out of form V.V for as long as needed...
