Carles Puyol gave his farewell speech at a press conference on Thursday, explaining that he’s proud and privileged to have enjoyed such an excellent career at Barcelona, thankful to everyone who has been alongside him on his footballing journey.

At an event held at the Auditori 1899 on Thursday, legendary Barcelona captain and club icon, Carles Puyol, gave an emotional farewell speech, thanking all that have helped him in his extraordinary career at the club.

“This is a very difficult moment for me. I’m very emotional. I’m trying to enjoy it because the people who know me, know I’m not much for talking, but I’ll try to explain how I feel.”

“My knee problems have persisted, I’ve done everything I could, but my career at Barca finishes on 30th June. We’ve tried to find the solution and we’ve not found it, but I’m not giving up and I’ll keep trying now without the pressure of having to play.”

“If someone had told me as a kid that I’d have a career like this, I wouldn’t have believed them. I’ve lived the dream of thousands of kids. I’m privileged.”

“I came here as a child and I leave with a family. I’m very grateful. I want to thank the presidents, directors and employees, who are here day after day and are very important. The managers and my team-mates, because I’ve had the fortune to play with the best, not only as players, but also as people. Thank you.”

“I also want to give my thanks to the Federation for the treatment I’ve received over all these years. They’ve always been at my side.”

“I don’t want to forget the fans, for the unconditional support they’ve given me at all times. They have always been at my side.”

“Finally, I want to remember people who are very important to me, who unfortunately aren’t here with us: Antoni Oliveras, my father, Miki Roqué, Luis Aragonés and Tito Vilanova.”

“For me, this is the end of one era and the start of a new one, which I hope I’ll enjoy as much as this. Thank you to everyone.”
