Can anyone tell me how Diego Alves has been performing this season? I'm trying to figure out why Felipao forgot about him...

He played a very good match against Madrid this past weekend. Never quite figure out myself why he never made Brazil's NT.

Referees for this weekend's games
José Antonio Teixeira Vitienes: Atleti-Malaga
Fernando Teixeira Vitienes: Elche-Barca
Alejandro Hernández Hernández: Celta-Real Madrid
All that is missing is Undiano Mallenco or Clos Gomez reffing us ffs
Somebody please convince me this league isn't corrupt

Undiano Mallenco is by far La Liga's best ref, if not the only one who must be exempt from the usual (deserved) ridicule of Spanish refs.

just lol
Mallenco is a joke and a terrible excuse for a referee.
Lahoz gets an exemption from abuse, not Undiano freaking Mallenco.

Mallenco is a good ref?! I might read Cesar "Gel" Muniz Fernandez is a good ref too. I'm sure Albert was a good ref when he started but certainly is pretty bad now.
Judging from that line up of refs, ONE of the three clubs involved is sure to bitch about crappy refereeing.

Could ask the same about Felipe Luis who is easily your best fullback. I guess South American NT coaches are just retarded. Sabella using Monaco's bench warmer Romero as starter while Willy Caballero is GOATing up La Liga for years - not even in the squad.

Politics play a huge role unfortunately :\
Alves, Felipe Luis and Willy deserve to be called up for their respective teams.

LOLhoz is adept with managing and controlling the players yet his decisions are too inconsistent.
@Zeal I know you're hurting from the Classico but Mallenco is still the best ref and more Alpha than you can ever be.
Finding it curious two Madridistas (along with HalaAtletico) are so against Mallenco

Lolhoz is an idiot. Doesn't give cards for the most obvious fouls all game "to let it flow". Then when it gets too heated makes up for it by messing up a huge decision towards the end of the game.

Why do football fans underestimate team chemistry and familiarity. Filipe Luis is good but Neymar and Marcelo have an unbelievable understanding together.
Can't just drop Marcelo because of club form.

Marcelo is very important for Brazil. Adds so much creativity, which is needed with the likes of Paulinho, Gustavo, Hulk, Fred

Gil has an astute point. Hence why Ramires, Oscar, Luiz, Hulk, Paulinho, Fred etc start despite possibly superior repalacements. Team chemistry pre-world cup is vital and dis-balancing that would be the "Italian problem" and scrapping away the bulk of Scolari's progress.
Luis is without a doubt better than Marcelo yet dropping Marcelo out of that judgement would be harsh.

Re: La Liga 2013/14 Discussion Mk. 3
I've stated previously that I think Felipe Luiz should be the starter since Marcelo is such a huge defensive liability. I was asking about Diego Alves because the few times I've watched him play he had performed well but has been completely overlooked by Felipao. It's surprising because Julio Cesar hasn't played much all season and his reserves aren't at the national team level.
I agree that Felipao values team unity above most things but Ramires isn't a starter, David Luiz plays brilliantly for us, and we don't really have better options for Oscar and Fred. You can replace Fred if you use Neymar as kind of a false 9 which could work (although Felipao likes a traditional CF) but who is there to take Oscar's place?

Ramires does not start.
There is no one better than Hulk, Fred (now that Costa has embraced his Spanish roots) and Oscar for Brazil. Not a bad thing as all of them are pretty good.
Luiz in NT>>>>>Dante in club>>>>>Dante in NT>>>>>>>Luiz in club
Paulinho also has always played well for Brazil.

Sorry I was thinking of Ramires under Dunga.
I'd say there are better candidates than Hulk, Luiz, Oscar, Paulinho, Fred including the judgement of form. Yet you're missing my point.
Replacing them would be useless considering their performances for Brazil are adequate to their roles and the chemistry within is superior to the option of rebuilding that contingent.
And Costa was always Spanish.
