Recently watched Dog Day Afternoon for the first time and man oh man is Al Pacino a god or what. Unbelievable great performance specially since I watched it right after re-watching the Godfather trilogy.

Anyone here watch the film "Best Man Down"? Saw it earlier today and I was a big fan.

Just saw Guardians with my bro and it was insane! Chris Pratt has hit the limelight, Batista was GOAT and Gamora was damn sexy! Definitely took a dump on The Avengers and I can't wait for the sequel

SO could definitely see why it has cult status. It is just that type of film that's original.
I don't really know what to say, so I'll keep it short.
It's the type of film that you can't explain to someone else you just really have to watch it. It's nowhere near being one of the best films of all time, but I loved the character Patrick Bateman played by Christian Bale. Plot wise there's really nothing much to this movie - it's just about this character and what he represents.
My rating: 7.7/10

My favorite X-men character. Shame he didn't get more screen time. His scene was the highlight imo.

Main man Peter Dinklage Trask was more villain than that pos Ronan. Dat mustache ffs Tom would love it.

He's a mutant in DOFP, but apparently Marvel Studios don't have the rights to that same word in the Avengers so he's basically just superhuman there. That and the presence of Scarlet Witch also complicates things between the 2 timelines.

Hell, I'm still confused how Alex Summers is a 20-something in the 70s when he's supposed to be Cyclops' younger brother.

Not sure how that's dodgy, tbh. They're entirely different characters in different cinematic universes... it's not even "different timelines" but entirely different canons and existences.

How can that be though?

There's only one Pietro Maximoff and while he is Magneto's son, he also wound up an Avenger as well and even had a daughter, who is central to a really good arc. I got that the first time around in the comics. so that was always very clear to me..........And then I saw what they're doing with him in the movies and that completely threw me off. As great as scene was in DOFP, there was no cohesion to his character. It came off as pithy and pretentious as they teased us about his connection to Magneto. If they're going to use him, truly use him and give him a proper arc.

Moreover, I'm trying to reconcile the direction they're taking Quicksilver in with regard to the movies compared to the direction he took in the comics. Maybe that's the mistake I'm making in all of this, but ultimately, what I'm not understanding is why they needed 2 completely different versions of him for the movies. I guess the answer that question comes down less to comic canon and more to 2 studios rangling over the same character rights. I personally think it's just created a mess with his character as he doesn't seem to fit anywhere for me.. His appearance in Avengers makes much more sense considering that Scarlet Witch will be with him, but overall the whole thing has done my head in.

Anyways, maybe we'll continue this in the comic thread. Hopefully, he gets a proper role in Age of Ultron.

So I just finished watching Jeff Nichols' directorial debut - Shotgun Stories.
I am so impressed! Christ, at the rate this guy is going he should probably be considered one of the best directors of his generation very soon.
The movie is about a revenge tale of half-brothers from two sets of families. I love how the story unfolds with emotion and intensity minute-to-minute. And mah man Michael Shannon puts in a stellar performance.
My rating: 8.0/10

Shotgun Stories (2007) 8.0/10
Take Shelter (2011) 8.1/10
Mud (2012) 7.8/10
His next movie comes out next year and it stars Michael Shannon again, however it is a sci-fi. So it will be interesting to see how he handles that genre.
