The Movie House - Part 11
M99 wrote:The Madrid One wrote:Saw The Batman, was disappointed by the movie; the part I enjoyed the most was when Robert Pattinson actually popped out for real by surprise inside my movie theater to wish us all a good time. I basically had front row seats and he actually came out right in front of me, was at arms length. Twas cool.
As for the movie, without trying to spoil it: I liked the casting choices and the visual aesthetics of the movie but the story, plot, and general feel of the movie was not to my liking at all and it unfortunately was par for the course schlock for what can be expected of mainstream "superhero" movies. I was not surprised but still I was disappointed as I love Batman and the lore and I was hoping the sensibilities shown in the first trailer would by some miracle from god pan out with more tasteful substance behind them than how it all inevitably turned out. I remember the first trailer looked and felt like a dream to me, in the following teasers and trailers I could feel the cracks already.
Felt kinda bummed out for the cast actually, they deserved better. The movie is also a good example for me of why in an ideal world there wouldn't be superhero movies anymore, i'd much rather see a The Batman TV series with artistic integrity produced by HBO or something, the movie format is a tired and limiting one. The movie was 3 hours long and it was used clumsily, and it all wreaks of soulless corporatism. Weak and even embarrassing at points.
I'm not much for theaters or Hollywood, hadn't gone to a theater since The Last Jedi, both then and now I was disappointed and I knew I was going to be. I always think it's a shame when shiny movies with so much resources behind them end up being trite garbage. Kinda like eating a hollow tasteless cake with fancy decoration on it; you know it's not healthy and that nutritionally it is garbage because it's cake, but when you actually start eating a slice of it it's even worse because it's so bland and typical despite the decoration. Just throw out the fucking cakes.
This is probably the most pretentious post in the history of GL.
Remember his voice recording some years back? Actually reminded me of
- Spoiler:
- The Riddler's video recording. Just as insane stuff.
Still haunts me to this day. What a fucking guy

Thanks!
I’ve just been away a lot trying to get my mind right. Been having a rough patch since December.
Can’t wait for some sunnier times and hopefully less depression.

Once something like this
is made, you can only really go downhill really.
The Batman doesn't hold a candle.

The Batman for me is the best Batman movie I've seen overall. Loved it. Never thought I would say this but I think it's score is better than that of Zimmer's. Only thing I didn't like was the
The movie was much more grounded than any Batman movie I've seen.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Watched first modern movie in like a year. I'm always been a fan of Frank Herberts Dune, Lynches version and even more of the mini-series. 2021 Dune was visually stunning, and I liked the political aspect of it as the source material allows it. But it falls in the same pitfalls as Game of Thrones, all the good guys die predictably in a row, after trying to make 10 minutes viewers to like each of them. And then the one bad guy that could've died, predictably somehow survives. This of course is for the sequels, which currently kind of feels like mix of Disney Wars and Game of Thrones. I will watch the sequels, but only because I'm a fan of the franchise still. But as a standalone movie it's weak. 2.5/5

If it's anything like Ridley Scotts The Duellist, should be superb by todays standards. Might as well as watch it today.RealGunner wrote:El Gunner wrote:Before the Oscars piss you off with their petty politics, let me tell you what's up.

Wait Amazon bought MGM? This has a chance to be even worse thing for Bond than what Disney was for Star Wars.

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Watched the last duel. It was ok, definitely not as good as the Duellist, which probably shows how much Ridley Scott has regressed in his career. Casting was pretty bad, at the beginning thinking is this a play of Good Will Hunting or something. Interestingly Ben Afleck's performance eventually was the most authentic of them I think. The story is pretty interesting, but watching it thrice got boring, as the plot was pretty predictable. The movie is very authentic, bar fight correlation (in battle 1 hit kills, yet in the duel same hits did nothing), but it also had zero stylezation. And I think because of that is also has zero rewatchability factor. Not an epic.

little bit drunk, little bit high... currently rewatching Wolf of Wall Street
Scorsese really spazzed out for that one in a good way, completely different from his usual focus on gangsters or faith/

Re: The Movie House - Part 11
Not sure if anyone still watch roland emmerich movies? Watching Moonfall n god its complete shit, fit for childrens morning TV level, feels like its target audience are 10yo boys... I might not even bother finishing it just fast forward to the special effects scenes (which arent even good) n the ending
Also it seems whenever I see in the opening credits where they show the companies that produced the movie, if a Chinese is there I cringe becos it usually means it will be a mediocre movie with some big brand name close ups n some Mandarin conversations that has no point at all for the movie

Just saw Batman, very good I thought... imdb n the like are often so varied opinions, from 1 to 10s Dont think they are believable, must be bots bought by the studios or something sometimes Anyway, better than I anticipated... of cos not Nolan level, nothing is, but still very good.

I'm seeing it Thursday but it *is* quite different from his previous films even just based on the trailer. Feels genuinely exciting to get an epic, pretty high budget revenge thriller/action film that isn't Marvel though
