M'baye Niang arrested
Milan-owned striker Mbaye Niang is in custody after reportedly lying about a car accident and resisting arrest.
Niang was detained early in the morning for questioning by local police, four days after the 19-year-old's Ferrari crashed into a tree near the Ligue 1 club's training ground.
"He has been charged with accidental injuries, failure to control his vehicle, driving without a licence and hit-and-run," said a police source close to the investigation.
Niang, who joined Montpellier last month from AC Milan, will appear before a judge on February 24 and faces a maximum sentence of five years in jail and a 75,000 euros ($102,000) fine.

5 years prison sentence just for that. 5 years should be for something like racism.

I'm surprised he wasn't arrested a long time ago, for impersonating a footballer.

Potentially killing/injuring people is worse than an insult.

If he'd have killed people than I'd say way longer than 5 years. Maybe lifetime.

Re: M'baye Niang arrested
But he COULD have killed somebody.
He attempted to drive a very heavy, very fast metal machine without even being qualified to do so and drove like a maniac. If some dumb *bleep* like that ran over somebody I knew, and didn't even have a license then i'd want to kill the *bleep* myself.

Re: M'baye Niang arrested
Was he drunk? How the fck did he crash on a tree near his training ground? More than likely he did not properly know how to drive seeing how he does not even have a license. Dumb pos.

If he's injured someone then 5 sounds about right. If he hasn't then it's too much.

Re: M'baye Niang arrested
He injured himself and his pride.
The maximum sentence is five years, but he won't get that because he didn't drive much (around the training ground) and because he can be of better use to France by paying more fines.

Re: M'baye Niang arrested
Actually, believe it or not, after his first couple of games... Niang has been a beast moving into the 9 spot. After Ibra, Cavani and Falcao, many believe he's the best 9 in Ligue 1. He's scored 4 goals in his last 3 games and was starting to looking dominant to my huge, huge surprise.
A shame really.
But he won't get prison. He's 19 and a minor. He'll get a suspended sentence that will turn into serious time if he does wrong again. He's lucky that he's not 21.

Nothing can come good when you put a 19 year old in a Ferrari.

AC Milan loanee Niang handed 18-month suspended prison sentence
The forward has also received a €700 fine and seen his driving licence revoked for three years after an accident at the beginning of February
AC Milan loanee M'baye Niang has been handed an 18-month suspended prison sentence following a car accident earlier this month.
The forward, currently on loan at Montpellier, was taken into custody after crashing his Ferrari while under a suspension from driving, although the 19-year-old denied he was at the wheel of the vehicle.
Witnesses claimed Niang struck several other cars after losing control of his own before he fled the scene, and he risked a prison sentence of up to five years and a heavy fine had he been found guilty of serious driving offences.
However, a judge at the criminal court in Montpellier instead handed him an 18-month suspended custodial sentence and a fine of €700 - €500 for failing to control his vehicle, €100 for speeding and a further €100 for failing to stop at a red light - as well as a ban from driving for three years and 170 hours of community service.
The prosecutor had initially asked for Niang to be given community service and the annulment of his driving licence, rather than a prison term.
"At the time, I was overcome with panic. I'm sorry, it was completely stupid," Niang was quoted as saying by Maxifoot prior to the criminal proceedings.
Niang, who has made 10 appearances for Montpellier since completing his loan move from the Rossoneri, was warned by club president Louis Nicollin over his off-the-pitch conduct in future following the incident.

Re: M'baye Niang arrested
That's a rather harsh sentence imo.
Should only be doing time if he hurt or killed someone while driving the car.
