Roman Weidenfeller believes it would be detrimental for Borussia Dortmund team-mate Ilkay Gundogan to join Manchester United or Real Madrid.
The midfielder, 23, is a key cog in the Schwarzgelben first team and has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils or the Blancos.
However, BVB and Germany goalkeeper Weidenfeller thinks Gundogan's development as a player would suffer if he were to leave Signal Iduna Park in 2014.
"I would advise Gundogan to stay," he told Kicker. "His development is not yet over. There are a lot of challenges he can help us with at Dortmund.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
QPR chairman Tony Fernandes expects Julio Cesar to leave the club this month amid reports the goalkeeper is set to return to Italy.
The Brazil international was one of few players to impress in a dismal 2012-13 campaign that saw the club relegated, but an expected summer move away from Loftus Road never materialised and the 34-year-old has since fallen behind Robert Green in the pecking order.
With just one appearance for Harry Redknapp's side this season, the former Inter shot-stopper is likely to leave as he eyes more gametime ahead of the World Cup - and Fernandes is anticipating a January exit.
When asked if Cesar is likely to leave Loftus Road this month, Fernandes told Sky Sports News: "I think so.
"It's a waste for someone with such immense talent not playing and I think he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, so I'm sure someone will pick him up and let's see how that goes.
"We've gone with Rob [Green] because at the beginning of the season we thought Julio wouldn't be there.
"Rob has come in and done a fantastic job and I think he could be pushing for an England place - he's played really well.
"Just look at the last game [a 2-1 home victory over Huddersfield Town on Saturday]. He kept us in the game until we came back and won. He's been superb."

Inter have released a statement confirming they will not go through with the exchange between Mirko Vucinic and Fredy Guarin.
The deal had practically been done on Monday evening until angry Nerazzurri fans bombarded the club with complaints.
“FC Internazionale has decided not to continue negotiations with Juventus regarding the transfer of Fredy Guarin and Mirko Vucinic.
“President Thohir, having conferred with Massimo Moratti and the club's management team, did not feel that the necessary technical and financial conditions were in place to come to a satisfactory agreement.
“The President has already instructed the club's sporting directors to assess other transfer opportunities, with the aim of strengthening the team while respecting the parameters imposed by the Financial Fair Play rules.”
The matter might still not be over, as Guarin is reportedly furious with the collapse of the deal and has even threatened to go on strike rather than play in an Inter jersey again.
Meanwhile, the Curva Nord have called a protest in the street outside the Inter HQ in Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

Beppe just destroyed Inter
One of their best players is hated by the fans, and hates Inter in return
And Inter have been made to look like a joke in the transfer market.
Ah well, Mirko stays for now

Manchester United have not made any concrete move for Bayern Munich’s Dante, club sources have told ESPN, despite the Brazil defender stating that the Premier League champions are interested in signing him.
In a comment that was somewhat out of the blue, the 30-year-old told Fox Sports Brasil: “I’m thankful for the Manchester United interest, it will all be sorted out by the end of the month.
“We have to wait until Jan. 31 because there is a lot going on."
It is felt, however, that Dante could be using the statement as leverage in attempting to secure a new contract with Bayern.
While it is true that the defender is someone that United have kept an eye on, that is somewhat complicated by the fact the Old Trafford club are known to have watched around 40 senior players in the last few months, as manager David Moyes seeks to strengthen his team.
While United sources did not rule out any move in future, it is thought the extent of current interest has been exaggerated, and that the player’s first wish by far is to stay with Champions League holders Bayern.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Unlikely Juventus will now sell Marchisio in his resurgence, playing that DLP/DM role in scrumptious excellence. While Vidal has been given license to roam forward even further, adding more verticality to his game-Marchisio's combinations with Pirlo/Bonnuci and his undertaking of the role has been nothing short of excellent (so far).
Though United-Juve connection and their long pursuit of him, can make the difference.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
Agreed, If Marchisio keeps this up then I have no issue with using him in this role post-Pirlo and spending no money on another regista
He has been excellent for us in his new role. Last year I said it makes much more sense for Marchisio to play there as opposed to Pogba. And bah gawd was I correct.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
I remember once pointing out that the last year or so will be a slight 'flux' for Marchisio, given this is the time most midfielders (usually Italian) take this time to evolve their game, resulting in a heavy sacrifice of their role and place in the team. Marchisio's words and his placement from roles as Mez'zala, SS, AM, wide-left, wide-right, wingback, boxista, box to box leftback is typical of Italian managers evolving their player's game.
Since Marchisio is so complete, he has now evolved his role into which will require less of his usual flair and more study of the field itself on the ball. As displayed vs Cagliari, his two-footed crosses and pass range cements that if he finds more consistency to be present in the game more often (his weakness) than he can be phased into a more dynamic DLP role to which actually has Juventus play in more fluidity.

Re: 2013/14 Winter Transfer Rumours Mk. III
He's getting the most out of his defensive talents right now, and so is the team as a whole
Vidal is such a big difference maker when he has the license to roam, especially when being covered by the deep standing Boxista
