Maybe I haven't comprehended correctly, but have you just called Jerome Boateng the best CB in the world?

Even I have to laugh about this
He is not even the best CB in our team, had a good season until now though

It's not that hard to comprehend, 5 1/2 words "best CB in the world".

I know I explained exactly why earlier, but it still astounds me that Muller doesn't even get recognition within the any of those line-ups.
To be fair to Arq, your claim is ridiculous and your original post is a wee bit convoluted. I can see why he wanted clarification.Hapless_Hans wrote:BAYERN_MUNICH wrote:Arquitescu wrote:Hapless_Hans wrote:and Vidic over Boateng, the best CB in the world, lol

and why is my claim ridiculous? You know, not just 'wrong' in your opinion, but 'ridiculous'?

Re: FIFPro World XI 2013
Because your claim is that a player who, statistically and in the general consensus, isn't even the best central defender at his own club, is in fact "the best in the world."
By no estimation does your opinion on the matter appear to hold any more weight than someone stating that Sarah Palin in the best politician in the world. If you'd said he's "your favourite" then that's an entirely other matter which could certainly be judged purely by subjective personal opinion... however, making a claim for "best" does by its nature bring into the discussion both statistical evidence and opinions of both the general masses and experts in the field (insomuch as there ARE experts) and in those categories your claim falls utterly flat.

Re: FIFPro World XI 2013
I'd agree it's a 'bold' claim lol, but it's not ridiculous at all.
Show me the 'consensus' that Dante is better than Boateng, because he's not.
Boateng has been our best CB for 2 years now (while still being pretty young), and well, we've been kind of the best team for 2 years. Where exactly does Sarah Palin come in here?
I'm always amazed why Boateng is so underrated, even by our own fans it seems.

You admit yourself that the general consensus has Boateng rated lower than others, while demanding that I show said consensus? Your own admission of its existence is therefore my evidence.Hapless_Hans wrote:I'd agree it's a 'bold' claim lol, but it's not ridiculous at all.

You back your claims with nothing but your own opinions and declarative statements that hold no real value by themselves. I honestly don't care which CB is better or who "the best in the world" is as I've never thought of footballers in such a way and most likely (hopefully) never will. But your initial post was both vaguely worded and, without evidence (which you've never provided and already helped to refute) stands on the side of ridiculousness.

Personally I'm quite curious as to what depths Hans has seen into Boateng to call him the best CB in the world, an utmost unusual and a very interesting opinion. Though I cannot agree with the outright deceleration in his context.
Red, would you be able to make your own World XI 2013 to present to us? I'm personally wondering on your choices, given your subtle criticism of the list.

Re: FIFPro World XI 2013
listen, I really don't expect everyone to agree when I proclaim Boateng the 'best CB in the world' in a quip post complaining about his underratedness in this FIFA 11 stuff, because, well, as you say, it's a bit futile to seriously go on about this 'x is the best because..' nonsense.
I'll push back however if people pretend Boateng is some scrub, because THAT is ridiculous

No. I'm a system man, so I don't consider/compare players but individual talents but by how well I think they would fit into a particular system. As such there is no "World XI" for me because that XI would change, in many cases drastically, depending on what type of team you want to build. That, and I only ever see relatively small snippets of players... even those of LFC and the Fire. What they do in 90 minutes on the pitch once or twice a week for 9 or 10 months out of a year is a tiny sliver of their actual personality, ability, and dedication. I'm not expert, I'm just a fan.Arquitescu wrote:Personally I'm quite curious as to what depths Hans has seen into Boateng to call him the best CB in the world, an utmost unusual and a very interesting opinion. And I never suggested the latter, nor did anyone else for that matter.Hapless_Hans wrote:listen, I really don't expect everyone to agree when I proclaim Boateng the 'best CB in the world' in a quip post complaining about his underratedness in this FIFA 11 stuff, because, well, as you say, it's a bit futile to seriously go on about this 'x is the best because..' nonsense.

To call someone 'the best in the world' is always, except for the obvious exception, a questionable and overconfident statement, and obviously mine was meant that way.
But maybe you can explain in what depths you're snorkeling around if you find the thought so utmost unusual and interesting that a central defender of a team that played a record league season with the least goals ever conceded and brushed aside Juve and Barca in CL quarters and semis without conceding once might in fact be considered the best in the world, however volatile such a claim is?!?

Re: FIFPro World XI 2013
Boateng is the best central defender at Bayern, but that's not really a huge accomplishment. Dante is the Spanish Piqué and Van Buyten is very average.

Dante is much better than Boateng imo. I wonder what happened with the other CB Badstuber he was doing good be the long injury...

RedOranje wrote:Due largely to his style of play Müller will likely never get the type of recognition he deserves in these situations. His game is built too much around intelligence and team-play to ever be fully appreciated with individual awards, especially those reliant upon fan votes.Hapless_Hans wrote:cough... Müller.. cough.. best Bayern scorer in the league, 8 goals in CL..
totally agree with this. Muller started out as a striker and then I think it was under LVG that he really improved and started playing in the other positions like he does now. U really have to watch the game and watch him to appreciate who exactly he does that seems not obvious and eye catching, but it is key and provides so much to Bayern's game.
I also used to think it was a bit of luck he ended up joint top scorer at the WC, his goals, etc., but I think those ppl who mention him should be considered right up there amongst the best players are right. Just his best attributes arent the eye catching things, a bit like Busquets I guess?

I also quite enjoy watching Goetze atm, he is another one that does things that just blows ur mind at times. If he continues to grow and play well with Pep's team, he will become one of the top stars everyone talks about come these award next year~

Re: FIFPro World XI 2013
Boateng has massive potential but still makes mistakes. His mistake prone-ness has decreased but he is nowhere near Thiago Silva Level. It is not even a comparison.
Dante is better than Boateng because Boateng is weak aerially and Dante also has phenomenal distribution and is a leader.
