I'd shudder to think what Liverpool would look like without Suarez. They are a solid squad but they are clearly making a push this year. Good on 'em. Keep him there if they make top 4.

I know it's a lot of trouble, but I wonder how much more accurate it would be if pts were deducted in relation to "no. of shots taken."

How would the point deduction work? I think that's a relevant stat but not necessarily what this thread aims to tackle, which is how often a player makes a contribution to the goal-count, regardless of how many shots it takes them. In my opinion, it's just as bad to take a million as it is to only take a shot when it is clear you're going to make it.

You're right, I also put stock into that convincing 2-0 win away to mighty Indonesia XI.

Let's get down to brass tacks, without Suarez right now Liverpool isn't sitting in a CL spot.

Well I obviously didn't count the meaningless preseason games

And in reality Sturridge can lead the line of attack by himself just as good. The only way I can see us struggling would be if we were without both of them since we have no one else that comes even remotely close to being good up top. And we have proven we can get results with either of those guys.

But obviously we have a higher chance of doing damage with one of the best players playing for us and who wouldn't. But again we aren't a one man team.

Can some German-speaking user tell me what 'Länderspiele' means? I'm not including it in the calculations but maybe I should be.

"Länderspiele" are all international matches, both friendlies and competitive matches. You could literally translate it as "matches/games between countries".
