Just to be pedantic, Walcott was actually a striker who Wenger turned into a winger.

Honestly, I'd very, very surprised if Wenger splashed on Draxler with the intention of converting him into a striker. He only did it with Henry because he had worked with him as a youth player for several years and held a long-standing belief that he could play centrally, but he's obviously not as familiar with Draxler.

If he signs him, it's more likely to be as a Rosicky or Podolski replacement.

No we don't really with Podolski, Cazorla and Oxlade-Chamberlain already there. If Draxler is signed he'll replace Podolski most likely (a player I'm not happy to lose). In attack we only need one more central forward, in my opinion.

He does remind of van Persie with his technique but with less of that rolling style RVP puts on the ball and more directness. Looks good on Youtube, if Wenger is betting £35million then I'm betting he'd look even better on the pitch.

Draxler is excellent but there are so many variables that even if he comes (this month or this summer) we shouldn't put too much weight on his shoulders. He's 20. He still has several full seasons ahead of him before he'll start to enter his prime.

Yes he's exciting and yes I'd love to see him in an Arsenal shirt. But I do worry that the price tag and the fact that many folks love to hype up every young starlet and not give any of them actual time to develop might just set up Draxler for a backlash he won't even deserve.

Imagine if he comes to Arsenal this month for a big transfer fee, and he does well but is a little uneven adapting to the PL, and only tallies like three goals and three assists? Suddenly you'll have a bunch of kneejerk know-it-alls saying that he's crap.

I'm not saying Wenger shouldn't go for Draxler if the opportunity & the finances are there, and he's convinced that is a key signing to make. I'll trust Wenger there. I'm just saying that fans & spectators shouldn't expect Draxler to come in like he's a clone of 25-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and suddenly boss a league.

the price tag is too high.. we should be not be signing Draxler in a hurry for such a high price, if we dont expect an immediate impact..
if we are signing someone this Jan, it should be to strengthen the squad to go all for this years title and end the trophy draught.. with a trophy under the belt in summer, we can buy very good players at more reasonable prices..

We'd be asking him at 20, to change countries, change leagues, most likely change positions, with the expectation of being good enough to help carry us to a title right away. That just sounds like a lot of unfair pressure.

However, you also have to look at it like this. Yeah, he has a release clause that starts in the summer.. But any team can activate it. He seems like he'd like to play for us now.. but a lot can change in 6 months. And Shalke's stance on him leaving has been surprising. lf they were 100% against him leaving now, l think they would have said that. Yet l feel with the right price theyll sell him now.

While a future signing isn't quite what we need right now.. lf the opportunity to grab him now presents itself then we should take it because it may not come again.
