Re: AVB appointed again!
Spurs aren't that good and signed shit in the summer. They'll be outside of the Top 4 yet again for the foreseeable future.

Re: AVB appointed again!
This surprises me. AVB is one of these guys with a "project" so if you hire him and then sanction a ton of transfers under him in just a few windows, it seems to me that you're really invested in him long-term. At the very least see him out to the end of the second season.
I guess not.
The most part of this is that Spurs, while certainly underperforming a lot in terms of their play on the pitch, aren't even in that awful a place in the table. They're eight points off the top in mid-December. They're above Man Utd. A couple weeks of results going Spurs' way and they could be in CL contention again.
So if Spurs somehow replace AVB with somebody really competent, they might be a threat.
Anyway though: Spurs.

Re: AVB appointed again!
I liked AVB but no you can't defend him at all
He makes awful choices, in terms of tactics and even the players he wanted. He doesn't even correct his mistakes and has been tactically raped twice in a month now
He's such a bad manager.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced Falcao's beastliness is what carried AVB at Porto

Likeable guy but lousy manager.
Then again how many of these woeful signings this summer are his and not Levy's?

Absolute joke to spend around 100m and then sack him 3 months later.... how can you expect all those players to gel? keep in mind that this time last year Arsenal were 10th after making several changes in the summer but did they sack Wenger? did they f*ck.
Also for all the hate for AVB and clueless he apparently is, he has the best win rate of any Tottenham manager since the 1800s

Very good point. Levy has done a poor job of setting Spurs up to succeed imo. If anything he's been putting Spurs in a position to fail almost yearly.

Re: AVB appointed again!
30 mil on Soldado...
They could've probably done better there but then again i cant blame them for that as they dont have that much of a pulling power and need to pay over the odds for players they want.
I agree with Mole.He needed more time and last time i checked they are 7th and 5 points off a CL place. He isnt doing all that bad like its made out to be but this seems to be a harsh reality in PL i guess.
Seemed to be a knee-jerk sacking in the wake of humiliating defeats against Pool and City.

Re: AVB appointed again!
This made it hard for Spurs:
Lloris was making an otherwise average defense look very good. Once he got the concussion, he's looked very hesitant leaving his line and understandably so tbh... Deschamps was close to keeping him out against Ukraine because his reaction times were so off his norm in practice.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Tbf Sports Spurs back 4 was good when everyone was available it was the reason they are only 6 points off 2nd.
Problem against Liverpool was the back 4 was Walker-Capoue-Dawson-Naughton
When it was Walker-Dawson-Chiriches-Vertonghen it was solid.

Right. 'Players gelling, not enough time, etc. etc.'
The same go-to talking points, the same comical cop-outs.
He's made a career - and a shit ton of money - out of serial failure while remarkably managing to maintain the appearance that he's some sort of misunderstood savant whose utter, utter brilliance the rest of us are just too unsophisticated to comprehend. If only all of us could be so lucky.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Well, I for one seen absolutely no improvement over the course of the season from Tottenham
Sure, players need time to 'gel' but you have to draw a line when game after game your expensive team can barely create clear cut chances against anybody.

I don't understand why they'd sack him. They're 7th, just 5 points off 4th. It's as if they're expected to win the title. Target for Spurs is to finish in the top 4, not win the title. They should have waited a few more months imo.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Shed are you serious lol? you don't back your manager with all that money and then give up on him before the Christmas period.
No one can get results that quickly with such a turnover of players.
This isn't about Chelsea he did a shit job there.... but this was too early.

It's kneejerk, plain and simple. Those 11 goals conceded in two games hit hard.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Tottenham have been shit since eternity, so him having the best win rate is hardly surprising since last season Bale carried them and their squad was much more complete than previous seasons. Stats hardly make sense in this context. Avram Grant has the best win % for a permanent manager in Chelsea history..Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Absolute joke to spend around 100m and then sack him 3 months later.... how can you expect all those players to gel? keep in mind that this time last year Arsenal were 10th after making several changes in the summer but did they sack Wenger? did they f*ck.

I'm pretty sure that all the signings Spurs made (except for Lamela and probably Eriksen) have been AVB's. Soldado is Falcao (poacher), Paulinho is Guarin (goal-scoring box-to-box midfielder), Chadli is Hulk/Varela (strong wide-forward), Chiriches similar to the pacy ball-playing defenders Otamendi/Rolando. Eriksen is kinda similar to Belluschi. Townsend, another guy similar to Hulk/Varela.. not surprising that he got his chances. AVB's just hiding under excuses as usual.
He wouldn't have been sacked if the nature of defeats wasn't as terrifying and the team game play in general was attractive and screamed of 'needing more time for perfection'. Conceding 3 goals to West Ham at home, losing 6-0 at Etihad, 5-0 to us at home is just a bit too much. It's halfway past the season and the team is still struggling to score. I think this sacking makes more sense than the Chelsea one.. no issues off-the-field, having all the players in the world that he wanted and inspite of that such horrendous results.
No knee-jerk reaction, he is just not good enough. He just doesn't learn from his mistakes. Playing a high line when you don't have players suited to it.. Dawson is a great defender IMO if used properly and he gets wasted in a high line, similar to Terry.
Chelsea fans didn't regret losing him. And within no time, even Spurs fans wouldn't.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Agreed with EE
At this point in the season, you should be seeing glimpses of the team coming together
If anything, they look worse with each passing game.

It's anything but. He's managed to take one of the most exciting sides playing some of the best football in the league under average Harry Redknapp and turned them into a jumbled, identity-less mess who can't create, can't score, and can't defend. The performances have been poor and have only gotten progressively worse as the time he's been working with the players has gone on. 9 points alone this season - a full third of their present tally - have come directly from 1-0 results courtesy of 3 dodgy penalties. Numerable other results have been decided or contributed to by either a moment of individual brilliant or luck (screamer vs United, stoppage time winner vs Cardiff, wonder-goal vs Fulham, non-penalty vs Sunderland, all in the last few weeks alone, etc.) rather than some sort of brilliant overall plan or philosophy, and the rest have been cricket-score annihilations. Their only mistake was not getting rid of him sooner – or, indeed, ever hiring him in the first place.

Re: AVB appointed again!
It was time to sack him. Yes, there was a massive change of personnel, but AVB was just getting nothing out of them. No improvement what so ever. 16 games into the season and they've scored 15 goals and the toughest opposition that they've beaten this season is 10th place Swansea.

I agree 100% with all this. Might I add also that his man management skills are also poor. Has a habit of alienating a lot of players.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Absolutely agree with mole, the sacking is a bad move. It doesnt matter how much money you spend on the market, but when you add up to 8 players on your team in one summer, regardless of their quality (and mostly midfielders), you cant expect your team to produce stellar results.
AVB has his faults, can be directly blamed for defeats like yesterday (even though his defense was out, the gameplan was awful), but spurs are not 13th place 20 points away from the top. THey were still in contention for the CL and they should have endured in my opinion.
But then again, this clearly highlight the delusion of the upper management thinking that Spurs, just because they sold by far and out their best player for 90 millions, had become a top team with the massive investment they made.
Well, flash news for them, they are not a top 4 team, and spending a lot of money doesnt make you one.
