Re: AVB appointed again!
AVB had a full functioning starting XI out injured when he was sacked... he was also only 2 games out of the top 4. Keep in mind he had to bleed in like 8 new signings from the summer, majority of the players signed from Levy and Baldini (AVB didn't have a say in most of those transfers).
The only thing AVB did "wrong" was fade out Adebayor. And that was clearly because he was looking at the long term.
Even if Spurs end up finishing top 4, the sacking was stupid and knee jerk.

Re: AVB appointed again!
What I can say is that Tim has done well by introducing Adebayor and giving Eriksen a consistent run of games to develop some form. Other than that, Spurs haven't improved. The only result that Tim has improved of the fixtures they have both played this season is the Man U game, where I think AVB's team played Man U better but unluckily came out with a draw (Walker and Lloris terrible terrible errors).
Then Spurs played Soton, WBA and Stoke and came away with 7 points. Impressive, but I think it's more than likely that AVB would have came out with a similar return (those are the types of games Spurs were winning).
Tim also got Spurs knocked out of 2 cups. But I don't hold that against him, even though he should have beat West Ham.
Really, Spurs likely would be in roughly the same position right now with AVB in charge. I'll wait on the praise, it's far too premature.
As for the separate issue of if the sacking was right...I still think it's premature and the fact that players that don't fit the style Sherwood wants to implement are now going to be ostracized (players that were just bought) leaves Levy looking like an utter fool and a knee-jerker, which he is. This isn't that I think AVB wasn't pretty bad this season, because he was, but that's still my stance on it.
I may even agree with Red Alert on that last line. I feel like top 4 might be worth it, but Levy also decimated a long term plan and the bigger picture by sacking AVB. So who knows, it may cost more sustained success in the long run. It's speculative at this point.

Had he kept Adebayor he would have still been there. He should have , at least until Soldado started scoring. How ironic.

Good. Manage a small club. Probably will fail with that too.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Less pressure in Russia, actually. He'll do well.
Zenit are the only real "big" club there so he'll walk the league. As long as he can impress in Europe, he'll be fine.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Would like to see him get out of England more than anything.
I'd rather see him take a team in Italy or La Liga personally, I think it fits him better than England. I'm not sure of what Russian teams really look like tactically, structurally or anything else, so I can't really say if it would fit him well or not, but it is less pressure and it will allow him to step out of the limelight a bit and hopefully mature as a manager. I wouldn't have minded seeing him take a Portuguese team again for a couple years.
I'll be keeping tabs on how he does, if he does go to Zenit.

AVB's failures went beyond england .
didn't he get thrashed by napoli and then somehow , chelsea easily overturned the deficit after he left?

Di Marzio wrote:André Villas-Boas is getting closer and closer to the Zenit St. Petersburg bench. The profile of the Portuguese increasingly convinced the leadership of the Russian club, looking for a replacement for Luciano Spalletti. Saturday and Sunday Villas-Boas will meet Zenit to plan projects and to define those agreements, for a contract that is expected to last 4 years. Then there will be the signing and announcement on Monday or after the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.

Re: AVB appointed again!
According to l'Equipe, AVB and Lebrune of OM are in serious discussions... Lebrune said today: "I dont see one french manager that can do the job." when asked about it. Problem is money... OM may not be able to afford AVB. But Lebrune is trying to convince the team owner that AVB is like a player signing and well worth the 3 mil per season that he wants...

That statistic is heavily inflated because of easy Europa League fixtures against the likes of Tromsö, Anzhi, Sheriff Tiraspol (), Dinamo Tiflis, NK Maribo etc. Here is the statistic without the EL:
AVB. DAT incompetence.

Re: AVB appointed again!
thanks Fussball, I knew something was off with that TV image statistic, because Spurs under AVB played like shit, got ridiculously trashed at home by big clubs and always struggled to score a single goal as, well, they were playing like shit.
Don't know what the guy has to do to get people to stop rating him.
doesn't mean of course that Sherwood is the right man for the job
btw, could the thread maybe be renamed? Because every time it is bumped my brain thinks for a split second that AVB was sacked AGAIN, like groundhog day, it's pretty irritating

Re: AVB appointed again!
Don't know why people rate him. He won the league in Portugal which Porto won 4/5 times before him and 2/2 times after him while having the likes of Falcao, Moutinho, Hulk upfront which wins you a competition like the Campeonato Nacional and the EL on talent alone (Falcao scored 4 goals against Villarreal in 1 game ).
At Chelsea he coached like a random Barca fan would but without having the players for it. His high defensive line saw Chelsea concede 5 goals against Arsenal and 4 against Napoli. John Terry defending in a high line. Still the funniest thing I've seen in football to date.
At Spurs he got Baled out with countless last minute winners. No real concept to see. Bale left, he got sacked.
I was about to write the exact same thing.

Re: AVB appointed again!
Why do football fans use Bale as a stick to beat AVB with? It still baffles me till this very day. Look at the players Guardiola has managed for instance but that doesn't stop people from tounging his arse at ever go. Man even gets full credit for this current Bayern side.
Everyone knows he was too inexperienced for the Chelsea job but he still did a superior job during his time there than a far more experienced manager like Moyes for instance.
As for his time at Tottenham. He led them to their best ever PL points tally (yes better than 'appy 'arry who had VDV, Modric, King & Bale) and it took a godly run of form from Arsenal who won 9 of their last 11 games to narrowly miss out on 4th.
I think calling a 36 year old manager shit & hopeless is definitely short-sighted but I suppose that sums up today's football fans.
I think as long as AVB stays far away from British shores he'll eventually prove his managerial pedigree.
