Pepe on the comeback trail
Simone Pepe is desperate to resume his career after going almost a year without playing for Juventus because of injury.
The versatile wide player made just one appearance for the Old Lady last term and that was on November 17, 2012, against Lazio.
“It’s been hard,” the Italian international told Sky Sport Italia. “To go a year without playing, for someone who is a footballer, is a horrible thing.
“To watch your teammates train for four months while I was out was difficult.
“I’ve been away from the field of play for 362 days, but I’ve only been missing from the Vinovo training complex on the days when I needed scans.
“I can’t think of quitting, though, as there is still a great desire. I did have doubts, I can’t deny that, but now there is a good chance that I will return.”
Pepe’s troubles started after he picked up a muscle tear in a triangular tournament during the pre-season of 2012-13.
“The summer before last I had a serious thigh injury which was resolved after surgery,” he explained. “Then there were complications.
“The club, from the President to everyone else, have remained close to me in this time. And the Juventus fans have been exceptional.
“I can’t tell you when I will be back, but I’m well now and I’m running. We’ll evaluate things on a daily basis and then we’ll decide.”
