Let's talk about Southampton
And dat English core of Shaw, Clyne, Ward-Prowse, PRIME Lambert, Rodriguez, Chelsea product Jack Cork & the Iniesta of South Hertfordshire Adam Lallana
Wanyama who's a donkey but excellent defensively and Lovren have both been outstanding signings as well. Sneijder-Lin who's arguably their best player is extremely underrated and a lot better than those overhyped French scrubs like Gonolans, Flamini, M'Vila & Capoue. Surprised he hasn't been called up yet.
Despite the feel good story it must be noted that two of their big money signings Serie A legend Ramirez and Osvaldo have both been huge flops and are both probably depth players at this point.
Credit to Pochettino for carrying on Nigel Adkins legacy.
Anyway, how long so you think they can sustain this run before the big boys eventually oust them for the Top 4 spots?

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
Clyne, Boruc, and Pretty Rickie(until he was shipped out for Lukaku), have been gold for me fantasy wise.
Clyne and Shaw both have futures at bigger clubs. I could easily see Shaw somewhere like Manchester City right now to be honest. Clichy and Kolarov both are on the decline. Would be a perfect time to learn from, and take over for them.

Pochettino results have been better but Adkins laid the groundwork for him to succeed. Not only did he establish their eye pleasing playing style, grooming the likes of Lambert/Cork/Lallana/Schneiderlin, making shrewd signings like Clyne, Jay Rodriguez and Boruc as well promoting academy prospects like Chamberlain, Ward Prowse and Shaw but he got them back to back promotions.
Besides weren't Espanyol flirting with relegation before he left or something?

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
They won't hold onto top 4 contention....
The only non-usual big team that held on right towards the end in recent memory was us....
And the only reason we did it was because we used the platform we had built in the first half the season.... and bought Cisse and brought Ben Arfa into the team and changed the system to push us on for next 3 months.
I can't see Southampton doing that to push them on.... 8th is my prediction.
Their youth set up is extremely envious though.... imagine how good they would be if they was in the PL and not so vulnerable to big team vultures when they had Sexlade, Walcott and Bale coming through.

Yes. But La Liga relegation tactics are enough to turn Southampton into world beaters in the EDL. Pressing and compressing lines in La Liga = no big deal. Pressing in EDL = DEM donkeys can't deal with it.Gil wrote:

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
What Lol Liga fans fail to mention is Pochettino had Espanyol initially in the CL spots and linked with the Real Madrid job repeatedly.
Then all his best players were sold and not replaced and they slid down the league before his eventual sacking.
If you are going to troll, you better make sure your not going into a thread with someone who used to watch the league more than Nick does today.

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
This says more about Pochettino as a coach as far as i am concerned, and his ability to coach defense. I recall in la liga when his espanyol were rolling he had an interesting defensive record as well. Cant remember what it was but he definitely had the best defense in the league for a while.
Anyway, his club will start going up and down sooner or later, that's the fate of average clubs.

Who are these mega stars that went from Italy to the Prem lately and flopped?
Giaccherini? Squad rotation player who's done fine with the awful squad that's around him.
Osvaldo? Was a striker playing for at the time a mid-table club, failed to impress and was shipped off.
Flamini? AC Milan are broke, desperate for players and even they released him at one point.

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
Did i say he's a scrub coach though? thing is people are acting like he was a scrub coach in Lol Liga and it really was the opposite he was just a victim of circumstance.
He's always been a good coach and those who knew him at Espanyol from the beginning knew Southampton were on to a good thing.

So what? You're telling me he loses a couple of players and that is enough for them to be relegate? Pls go after Aguirre came in they finished 13th. No way they should have been close to relegation yet Pochettio had in dead last.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:What Lol Liga fans fail to mention is Pochettino had Espanyol initially in the CL spots and linked with the Real Madrid job repeatedly.

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
Every league has its fare share of players who flop in different leagues. It has more to do with the player than the actual league. Going by your logic..Knutsford123 wrote:it just goes to show how poor serie a is, when they were stars in italy and flop in uk
Bundesliga is shit, because the likes of Holtby, Sahin, Kagawa didn't translate there Bundesliga form to the EPL, right?
Yet, it still does have some players from Bundi, who have performed well in EPL.
La Liga is shit as well, I mean the likes of Soldado, Navas, Deulofeu and Monreal didn't translate there La Liga form to the EPL, right?
La Liga also has its fare share of players who have performed great in EPL.
As for Serie A, yeah it does have a few players who aren't exactly performing in the EPL as they did in Serie A. But, the players are Giaccherini, Osvaldo, Ramirez, Lamela and Jovetic. Giaccherini was a rotation option at Juventus. Osvaldo was always inconsistent and his best form came under Zeman's ultra attacking 4-3-3 where all attacking players flourished.Ramirez has been poor, but he has time on his side, he can still improve. Lamela is still adjusting to the EPL and will get a good run of games soon. If you think Spurs's most expensive player of all time won't start soon, than you are deluded. Jovetic has a tricky situation, the guy is injury prone and was always going to find trouble beating the likes of Aguero and Negredo to a place in the lineup. Injuries haven't helped him.
But going by your logic, I guess BPL is poor since Flamini and Lovren are flourishing while they were scrubbing in there previous leagues, right?
Romanian league must be great since Chiriches is playing amazing for Spurs, right?
Grooverider pls

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
Oh and well i'm at it, Gaston wasn't even that good in Serie A. And he was playing for and with nobodies ffs
Let's not pretend that Juve and Napoli star players have been going to the Prem and failing. Mid table average/above average players went to another league and flopped. Dat shocker.
Also, as far as Lamela is concerned, Tottenhams attack on the whole is a joke atm, he'll be fine when they have gelled.
Lovren the BPLs finest defender ffs
See how it works both ways?

As for Soton, they have been great. Whole team has been impressive, but the players that stand out for me is Shaw and Lallana.

Fact is until pretty much all the good players we sold they were in a CL place.... stop hating, its getting boring.
He's a good coach who has got off to a good start like he did in La Liga, that is it.

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
stop beating on Pocchetino for what happened to espanyol, you guys act like that kind of shit doesnt happen to all average clubs.
Unless you are coaching a legit top 6 team with the resources and ambition, you will have a hard time keeping a low budget club very high in the table years after years. The mental resources needed for that guy of perf cant sustain in shitty players, and they will always drop their perf after a while. that's the cycle.
Mourinho would flop if he had to coach Espanyol with no budget like Pochettino did. Managers in footy are stuck in that endless cycle of coaching average club until they get the big break. Sadly, top clubs keep recycling the same coaches over and over, even when they are old and washed up. People calling the shots dont even try to investigate to see who could be an elite coach if given the chance, they just look at resumes on wikipedia.
It's like Laudrup, clearly he has quality, but until a big club trust him with that job we will never know, and his teams will keep going up and down because that's all they can do. I see the same thing with Pochettino, top lad, he has quality, but at some point he is going to have to be trusted with a bigger club.

Re: Let's talk about Southampton
Pochettino's quality is there for everyone to see. I don't know what happened at Espanyol. You can't say they were that bad because of him. They could have easily finished 12th for example if Pochettino was still there.
Talking about Southampton, they are definitely a surprise of the season but i don't think they are here because of luck or anything. They do play football based on proper tactics that suits the requirement and Pochettino alters it frequently depending on the opposition and the players they have are really good technically and physically.
Competition for the top 6 is extremely high and i am not ruling them out of the top 6, but it's very unlikely they will finish in the top 6.

I'm not hating on him because he didn't keep ESpanyol in the top 6 lol Espanyol still had some decent players when he was sacked. They are no Osasuna, Santander etc. With the players they have he should have kept Espanyol far from relegation.
