Former Gunner Silvinho announces retirement

Former Arsenal defender Silvinho has confirmed his retirement from professional football.

The 37-year-old Brazilian, who made 80 appearances for the Gunners during a two-year stay in north London, has been without a club since leaving Manchester City in the summer of 2010.

Silvinho joined Arsenal from Corinthians in 1999 and became Arsène Wenger’s first-choice left-back, replacing Nigel Winterburn. He scored five goals, including a spectacular strike against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, before leaving for Celta Vigo in 2001.

He later moved to Barcelona before returning to the Premier League with Manchester City in 2009.

Really, I had no Idea.

We should have a whip round, go to his house and BEG him to join us for a season

Anyone got any young brothers or sisters? We can take them along for emotional leverage

Haha hell yeah, bring in a 37 year old LB, to go with our 41 year old GK, maybe beg Vieira and have him get one more season in?

What is this? A new league for retired players that we are joining? Or are we just too tired of the "young squad" alibi?

Have a team of children and pedo's i guess.

In all honesty it wouldn't be a bad idea - Those senior players would have decent attitude towards it, and it could help with the development.

Not with the pace at which we like to play man.. Come on.. you HAVE to be kidding!

Some players would be alright i think - Wouldn't be bringing Pires back though, he'd probably die on the pitch after 60 minutes of our pace.
