owners are the 2 biggest telecommunications companies in the country, Rogers Telecommunications, and Bell Communications, the company branch that they own the team under called MLSE (Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment) owns Toronto's NBA team, the Raptors, NHL team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Arena they both play in, as well as Toronto FC and there home field BMO field.

they are probably the richest team in the league, but just haven't really put the money into the franchise until now because they were seeing a decline in season ticket sales after 7 years of loyalty from fans even with constant failure.

To answer this:

Benfica lacked power in this move due to their massive debt, most of the players they have sold recently have all had third party owners, meaning Benfica got less for those deals, Matic, however, was 100% owned by Benfica and therefore was more available and available for less than most of their other players because Benfica got more than they would have for an expensive player owned by a third party.

The release clause was there BUT Benfica needed to sell him to reduce their debt, Chelsea were aware of this and low-balled them as much as possible.

No buy-back clauses were used.

What's DP?
It would be cool to see someday a very potent american league that could contest with European teams. Probably will happen with a South american league before a north american though.
