Except that Van Gaal's formula is not the same as Heynckes. In fact the transition from Van Gaal to Guardiola would have been relatively simple.

did you guys go with a 4-1-4-1 or your traditional 4-2-3-1?  Either way this was a great match!  but I do believe last season's bayern was incredible, against us in the super cup your finishing was lacking, and cech was our ace. Hopefully, we will face you again in this run of CL!

I don't want to be reactionary, but I haven't liked things so far, but I'll reserve judgment of Pep until the Champions League. However, even with poor coaching, we are still more talented than every other team out there so personally we have no excuses for not winning despite non-ideal tactics.

He has to win this year, because if he doesn't win this year when we are so far beyond every one of our competitors would be a wasted opportunity.

mate, never say stuff like "he has to win this year". This can't be planned, if we don't win it's not a disaster. Noone has defended this title yet, so I keep telling myself it's rather unlikely we will.

Plus, Pep has us playing the best Bundesliga season ever, that's not good enough a measure for you?
Don't worry, we will compete for everything, but I for my part won't put myself under the expectation that we have to win everything, what noone has ever done.

We don't have to win everything (I could care less about the German Cup) but when we are far superior to our European rivals not winning the Champions League this year would be a huge lost opportunity.

Pep was brought in to take us beyond even Jupp, and the Champions League is how Pep will be measured. It might be harsh to set the bar that high for any coach in his first year, but Pep knew that going in and it will be what is expected of him.

If he doesnt it will still be successful and good but not great. The team is so strong & Robbery-Lahm/Schweni have 2-3 Top years left so they have to make the most out of it.

The team is expected to match Jupp's CHL Winning Season. Very tough aim though

Since when have you supporting our club? Have you joined the bandwagon, now that we're the 'best team in the world' bla bla?

The fact is that Pep is having us play the best Bundesliga season ever, and if you don't realize what achievement that is you're an arrogant gloryhunter.
Since when are we that arrogant? We're not the best team in the world by default, above and beyond everyone, there are other teams out there that are great, not to speak of more expensive.
We've been the best team last year and this year in the league because of the work that is being done and the performance that the players do every week.

5% less, and we're gone. One bad day in the CL, and we're gone. That's the way it is.
Couple that with the fact that noone has retained the CL title so far, and I have to say that demanding we win the CL or else 'it's not that great' strikes me as extraordinarily spoiled and ungrateful, taking our current situation for granted.

Actually in Germany the DFB-Pokal is not considered a negligible event - only by those who are kicked out early (especially by lower division sides).

agree RWO, the Pokal is a great trophy, a double win, with a decent run in the CL, should always be considered an OUTSTANDING season for us.

I agree with the sentiment of the thread title. I believe that Pep is holding Bayern back.

Face it, his style of play is too limiting for the types of players we have. The stupid exaggerated short passing is getting on my nerves.

We'd thrive much more as a little more direct team. We're not a Spanish club with midgets who by sheer physical fact have to be limited to that. And if that nonsense exaggerated back and forth short passing gets instilled in more and more German players, then the national team's future is crippled too from what it should be.

I'm already scrared of Jogi Lew trying to copy Pep's style.

I also don't like the fact that people are swooning over Kroos amount of passes and completions yesterday. I would much rather have him get only 80% completion if we just played a more direct and fast kind of football more fitting for the German players and for the national team, seriously. What Pep is doing with Bayern is not a good direction for Bayern or for the German national team. Something closer to Dortmund's style would be much better. Maybe not quite as draining but there is a deep enough bench to do it. I know what I write is harsh considering the results, but be real, anything but the results Bayern is currently getting with the amount of world class players at the disposal would be disappoining. I still think Pep is holding Bayern back.

It is a ridiculous position to say that Bayern "has to win the CL" for Pep to be qualified a success.

Barça was also the best team in Europe from 2008 to 2012 and we won "only" 2 of those 4 CL and everyone thought each of those seasons were a success. You can't expect the best team to win every year, especially when it's a knockout competition where luck plays such a huge role.

As long as the team plays well, competes for everything and wins titles, Pep will be a success. And in the long run, he will win you CL.

While i can't complain about your taste on football (although I don't share it), I can point out to the weird conclusion that Pep is holding Bayern back when so far you are having the best season of your history.

Also, German national team hasn't won f*ck all since 20 years ago. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to copy the standards of the best national team in the world by far that has been Spain.
