Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
one post on Arsenal's finances then BOOOM .lol
as for those asking why Arsenal can't bud higher.
because we don't have a Russian or Arab sugar daddy.. we use our money to take care of ourselves, so if w eput 40 Million, and they ask us for 60, we might run out of some extra budget....
its the sad truth about sustaining urself in the prem

Can't really call it the EPL when there are Welsh clubs participating.

So you're saying that most of the people that call it BPL tend to be non-brits?Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Most of us don't at least in England, it seems to be more of a foreign thing for the most part.
In fact around people i know " the prem" is more popular lol.

Barclays sponsors the Premier League and both Cardiff and Swansea aren't English.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Can I ask why PL fans insist on calling it Barclay's Premier League? You don't see ligafaces or seriefaces calling it Liga BBVA or TIM Serie A respectively.
It's just like how the Championship is called the Coca Cola league.

It's actually the SkyBet Championship now, fwiw. Although we just call it the Championship, League One, etc.
Speaking of the Championship, Watford beat Bournemouth 6-1 last weekend. Troy Deeney scored a hat-trick.
It's early days but I'd be surprised if they weren't up there again this year, especially since they've managed to get a few of their loanees from last year like Anya and Abdi back on permanent deals.

I personally like to call PL, Premiership when I converse in person, but most commonly it's just Premier League.

The reason that the Barclays Premier League generally has some form of identifying title attached is that there are multiple known "Premier League"s. While the British version is by far the most well known, it's hardly unique in it's title, and so to avoid potential confusion titles are added.

I dont understand how you can call it EPL, when there's 2 Welsh clubs in the league.
British Premier League is now the correct name.

All this confusion
I just call it the Premier League(PL when I'm typing fast). Everyone gets what I mean.

but why use Barclay's as opposed to British? Also Brazil's league is also called serie a yet no one needs to make a distinction when talking about Italy's leagueRedOranje wrote:The reason that the Barclays Premier League generally has some form of identifying title attached is that there are multiple known "Premier League"s. Re: Barclay's Premier League discussion '13-'14
It's understandable, though, that outside of England it's called the BPL, because when you say the Premier League in England, of course you're referring to the domestic league, but if you say the Premier League here in Finland, for instance, you might be talking about any of the PLs. Like, the Russian league is called the (Russian) Premier League, for example.Gil wrote:No one calls it BPL outside England mate.BarrileteCosmico wrote:but why use Barclay's as opposed to British? Given that Britain = England + Wales (whereas Great Britain also includes Scotland) it seems to me that British doesn't necessarily means that it includes Scottish.RedOranje wrote:RedOranje wrote:Can't really call it the EPL when there are Welsh clubs participating.Works for "British" as well.BarrileteCosmico wrote:but why use Barclay's as opposed to British? I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think Jozy Altidore is poised to have a good season and he will surprise some people. He's not the player we saw at Hull anymore.

Think Sunderland will build their team around Fletcher again. We'll see how well Jozy can do to around Fletcher and well, playing as the SS then.

They'll likely play together in a 4-4-2.
