Messi breaks Maradona's record!
Move 1 goal ahead of Diego with 35 goals (tied with Crespo) for the Albiceleste with a hat trick against Guatemala today.
Argentinas greatest ever player.

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
You spelled world's wrong.
That's also the second consecutive season he scores 9 goals for Argentina, which is a record, shared with Batigol.
Messi 9@9
Batigol 9@12
Messi 9@12

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
The thing about Messi is, he seems able to overcome all weakness.
Sure, people can think all day what he isnt good at, but it gets them nowhere.
Try to overpower him? No way! His balance is much too great for that
Too small to play central forward?Wrong again, His dribbling ability pretty much negates it.
Tax bill?? Nope, He and his dad can easily negate such problem with not only pace, but skill.
He is clearly the greatest Argentine player ever. Sure, some other folks want to name other guys who actually won things other than u23 tournaments with their nation as more worthy of the throne, but such people just dont understand the importance of watching a local player, who moved away from the country over a decade ago, use their talents to win trophies for a club thousands of miles away. It is a very special feeling:proud:

And that my friend is the definition of jealousy. Wake me up when your country generates players that even approach the level of Messi, Di stefano or Maradona.

Au contraire my dear Nirgall!
I love Messi. Whats not to love? Because you know when anything of importance is on the line for Argentina he will NOT show up. You could see the Argentine media wanting to crown him Christ from day one. They wanted another Di Stefano so bad. The thing is, and people wont even mention it in public now, but the high brass were embarrassed to have Maradona(you know, a guy who actually won stuff for his nation) representing them. He was a guy with bravado and confidence. A guy who, if invited to your party, would do a line of coke off your wife's naked body right in front of you, and she would like it. More indígena than mestizo if you catch my drift. They so desperately wanted to appear European to the world, and Maradona winning on the national stage was undermining this.
Argentina got what it wanted though. Nothing was more satisfying than watching Brazil go down to Rosario and spank them coming and going on September 5th, the year our lord two thousand and nine. Something Maradona would have never let happen as a player, but something Messi just happily rolled over and accepted.

Nice record and has been brilliant for Argentina for over a year now but he has a long way to go yet.

20 out of 35 were goals in friendly games .
only 1 goal in 2 world cups .
only 2 goals in 2 copa americas, and 0 past the first round
meh , maradona's status as the best player in argentina's national team history is pretty safe .

B-bu-but friendly goals only dont count when we are talking about Pele!!!
With Messi scoring goals in friendlies=Best player ever.
Pele scoring goals in friendlies=OMG OVERRATED1111!!
This is Argentine logic at work.

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
Every player in history scored most of their goals in friendlies, its just common sense.
You play more friendlies than you do international tournaments.

Which is why Maradona is still better for Argentina at this point in time ( not the only reason)
Messi has been great for Argentina for last 18 months though and if he keeps it up for next 2 to 3 years then its a debate people can have.

this is demonstrably false . no need to look further into history , take CR7 as an example .
30 goals in official games
9 in friendlies

60 % of messi goal's were in friendlies vs 50 % of maradona's ( and i need a source for those numbers ) .
also 8 goals in WC vs 1 tells you everything you need to know
the last point is meaningless , especially when 3 of messi's goals were in a friendly against brazil C .

senior team minus julio cesar, thiago silva, dante, dani alves, david luiz , , hernanes , paulinho , luis gustavo , fred ...
in fact, of the 16 players ( starters and subs ) that messi beat, only 3 appeared yesterday

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
What has Messi won with the Argentina senior team again? How many goals has he scored for Argentoina when it matters? Harmonica, your Messi obssession is becoming borderline disgraceful. Have you ever thought of having a check up? Are you aroused by this man in more than footballing terms? Please get a grip.

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
He played against our Olympic team a few weeks before the london games , we already discussed this 100 times.
Even if he had scored 4 against us, it means nothing because he is a little shit compared to Maradona and other Argentina greats when we talk about international football

Re: Messi breaks Maradona's record!
So when does it matter when you score, when you win tournament, advance to tournament?Clockwork Orange wrote:What has Messi won with the Argentina senior team again? Lets see
WCU20 Messi 6 = Maradona 6
Olympics Messi 2 > Maradona 0
WCQ Messi 12 > Maradona 3
WC Messi 0 > Maradona 5
Total Messi 20 > Maradona 14
Now I'm confused.
