I always dislike the years like this where there is no Euro or WC to give some other competitive votes outside of club football.
I don't know, I guess Messi? No one person stands out imo.

TBH vanDeez, the award is a farce. Won't be surprised if Messi wins it again. I don't knw why they combined it with that nonsense fifa award tbh.

Muller for me
But if Messi scores 30 goals from August till December then he will probably win it again

but winning the league and cl counts a lot for ballon dor tho.
confed cup is a sham, and 3 months of footy next fall wont decide the winner imo.

Too far away. But betting against Messi would be stupid. The award's a joke.

Messi has been the best player this season. The award is given to the best player, yet somehow, it's a farce/joke

This award is given to "statistically" best player so it'll be Messi again.

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
I'm not saying he should win it...I think some one from the UCL winner should get it (whoever stands out in the final imo)
That said...
he was injured vs Bayern and played one leg anyway
destroyed Milan 2nd leg - so what if he didnt do well the first leg, the entire team didnt do well. Plus he got them through which is what counts
and by flop you mean score but his teams defense let him down vs Madrid?

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
Yeah stats are in his favour, but I couldn't really care how many he sticks past weak la liga clubs. It should be more about being decisive and important.
schweini and Muller are instrumental in guiding their team to a possible Treble, and are doing so in style.

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
Yeah agreed. And before the obvious "Barca won the league" argument. Are we really going to put Messi ahead of Muller andschweini, possibly even Ribery and Lahm, because Madrid weren't consistant throughout?
The way I see it is Messi couldn't help against Bayern and Bayern have secured the league title, are in the CL final and domestic cup final thanks to some of the key players. If they go on to win the CL, Messi should not be getting more credit for achieving less.
"But Messi was injured"
Before this is mentioned, players get injured and that's part of the game. You don't reward a player because you think he would have done something special when he was fit.

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
Messi's been great i'll give you that, but not as important or as consistant in big games as the previously mentioned players.
If the reward is going to be the equivalent of the Golden boot then there really is no point in having it.
schweiny or Lahm aren't going to score 60 goals a season so meh. Doesn't mean that they've not been better in the games that count.

sneijder beasted in 2010 with a treble and a great world cup campaign still lost it to messi, so messi will just always win for the sake of it

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
Messi was injured against Bayern so to take away from Messi's season because of that is illogical considering it's an individual award.
The two clasicos that Madrid won where Messi supposedly "didn't show up when it mattered most" or whatever, didn't actually mean that much considering the only thing at stake was a Copa del Rey final spot. seeing as Madrid had already lost the league in the first three months when CR & co.s lack of consistency handed Barca the title.
Anyway, as for big games, Messi scored three times in two league clasicos, pulverized Milan as part of an epic comeback against all odds in a CL knockout, was amazingly decisive in the little football he played against PSG (first half of the first leg and ~20-30 mins of 2nd leg) in the CL quarter.
So because Real Madrid beat Barca out to the Copa del Rey final, Messi shouldn't be the best player. Logic
There is no stand out player for either German team in contention for CL really and Dortmund was nowhere near Bayern in the league. So Messi should/will win it.
Edit: For the record, if CR had won the CL, I would have said he deserved to win it. In a year without major national team competition, Messi and CR are pretty much the only contenders I'd say. They are just individually too good to not be one of them unless a WC winner who had a great club season as the outstanding player of his team comes around.

Messi comfortably.
Oh wait i'm being stupid, how could I think that when he wasn't performing at 100% after coming back from an injury

It's been a pretty underwhelming year so far. Give it to Heskey.

Re: Who would you pick as Ballon d'or this season ?
If we just looks goal scoring stats then Messi and Ronaldo is going to win as long as they keep playing.
For example, Bayern defense has been rock solid this season and didn't concede any goals against Juve or Barca and only 14 goals in league this season. No one can deny this feat isn't quite impressive, so isn't there a quite good reason to give it to one of their defensive player? Specially if they win treble.
Personally wouldn't mind someone like Lahm getting the award. He is at least one of the best if no the best fullback currently and has been that for years now. He even has 17 assist according to transfermakrt which is quite awesome stat for defender.
