Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Aspas still isn't official, so I'm not sure we should include him (counting eggs before they hatch and all that).
Art I assume you're all for the Atsu links, as he's a more traditional winger to our other options. I know you're no fan of Rodgers but you must admit that for Assaidi to have received the treatment he did there's something more than just manager preference going on.

Aspas is our player as of now. He just can't play any official games until everything is resolved.

I know it's only youtube, but he reminds me of a young Pepe.
Some of the saves on there are unbelievable.

Dont know how reliable, but its an interview nonetheless. So that confirms Luis Alberto in a few days.

#lfc & #safc also closer to agreeing fee for keeper Simon Mignolet. Liverpool have offered £8m and Sunderland want £10m (via @philmcnulty)

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
I'm still puzzled by this move for Alberto. I mean he is a good talent yet never rated all so highly within the Spanish talent group as I wish we had gone for Alcacer or even Morata instead; both who could have come for around this price.
We also have Semid Yesil, Adam Morgan & Borini who will be competing within his talent group to which I don't see him really topping.
He is a good talent yet nothing extraordinary.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Morata's already stated he's staying at Madrid, and given his performances this summer there's no way Madrid would want to let him go for less than a rather silly fee (much more than £6.5m). I can't and won't comment on Alcacer's situation.
SAMED Yesil is still recovering from his ACL injury and there's no real telling how he'll return from that. Morgan's shown glimpses of talent but is still very rough and immature on the pitch; he's a ways away from the first team. Borini may actually be competing with Alberto, but Alberto is more versatile (CAM) and more creative compared to Borini's better finishing and higher overall work rate. They can both fit into the same squad, offering different things in similar positions or in different positions.
Liverpool Echo are apparently reporting that we've dropped our interest in Papadopoulos... I wonder who our second choice is (and if its Alderweireld and he joins Leverkusen, who our third option is).

The Echo's article:

Neil Jones wrote:
Luis Alberto:
Luis Alberto was due on Merseyside on Friday as Liverpool seek to wrap up a £6m deal for the Spaniard.
The midfielder was expected to fly in Friday afternoon to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, after the Reds managed to negotiate an acceptable fee [£6m, with another £1m in performance-related add-ons] with Sevilla for the 20-year-old prospect.
Mkhitaryan:
Mkhitaryan flew to Vienna, Austria on Thursday. Shakhtar are currently at an Alpine training camp, and with no deal in place with Liverpool, the 24-year-old is now expected to join up with his teammates, with his representatives continuing negotiations on his behalf. He is understood to be keen to move to Merseyside, though there are likely to be rivals for his signature.
Mignolet & Atsu:
The Reds remain confident of completing a £9m deal for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and, as revealed in the ECHO on Thursday, are leading the race for FC Porto's Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu.
Papa:
Their bid to sign Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, however, is over. The Reds' interest in the Greek international has cooled after initial negotiations with the German club proved fruitless.
Liverpool rate Papadopoulos, and value him at around £12m, but Schalke's insistence on a deal worth around £20m means the deal is no longer an option, with Rodgers now set to pursue other central defensive targets. Ajax's Toby Alderweireld is a potential option.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
So we didn't activate the buy-out clause of Mkhitaryan?
Alder would be great. He's also Belgian so he can settle in life in England with Mignolet. I prefer Alder over Papa, too. Papa's knee is just too worrisome.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Mkhi looks a like a far fetched story by the media and nothing else till now.
luis alberto, as arq said why are we signing him ???,at least i dont remember seeing him playing for spain in u 21. Is he from the similar lines of yday's team B of spain who played against tahiti. If he is, it is sad that we are not able to sign someone else from team A.

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
We're apparently getting Luis Alberto instead of Tom Ince. He'd want lower wages and is probably just as good judging by the assist/goals next to his name. So 2-3m from Blackpool selling Ince would go to the Luis Alberto deal, I imagine.

Cardiff were apparently interested last. Not sure if the links were credible. Only saw him linked there from RAWK.

From the looks of it i think the 3rd option would be Skrtel himself. Cause the link with Napoli has fallen through & there were some quotes from him saying he would fight for his place in the team. Well won't be too bad i guess. Agger, Skrtel, Illori & Kolo.
EDIT: The quotes where from Skrtel's Agent.

Trying to sign players from the top three teams on earth seems pretty unreasonable for us currently:
Spain
Spain B
Spain U21
Apart from one representative we currently have (Reina) & ones we had (Alonso & Torres) the rest seem far fetched now. Even City get to buy from the 3rd & 2nd best!!!
For crying out loud Del Bosque had to make 10 changes to fit in Silva, Villa, MATA, Cazorla & Torres. Even then Navas had to come off the bench
So let us not talk about the Spanish NTs for the coming years!! Maybe after we are in the regular Top 4 fighting for stuff things might change

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
Without CL, I don't think we have much choice beyond the likes of Aspas, Alberto. Yes, there are few players like Henrikh who can be tempted with better wages, but there are teams who can match our offer and provide CL/EL. Question is, is it possible to qualify for CL with the likes of Aspas or Alberto.

Can confirm that Luis Alberto has arrived at Melwood in the last few minutes to begin his medical and discuss personal terms. #LFC

Re: Summer Transfer Window 2013
yeah fahim, i share similar thoughts so i said that it is "sad" because I felt that not only we cant get someone from team A of spain including iniesta, xavi OR other team B which played yday ; but also even someone from regular U21 spain side which won the european crown. But if alberto is really one of the talent which can be like cazorla, mata in future, then it is really a great deal.

Seems like we are interested in 17 year old Matheus Biteco from Gremio. Our scouts were watching him in the Toulon tournament. Same one Ilori played in.

Our 18 year old Bosnian sensation, Armin Hodzic, has returned from his loan in Zeljeznicar. I was wondering what happened to him. We signed him for the academy in 2011 when Kenny was here.
