Re: Serie A in decline?
serie A has been declining for years. now that the milan clubs are rebuilding, i fear the coefficient will continue to decrease. without milano serie A has two cl's. the bundesliga has more.
juve, lazio, rome, napoli dont have european pedigree.
comparing italy to the eredivise is a stretch though....

Re: Serie A in decline?
Nah, it's still the 3rd/4th best league.
A lot of the teams are overall better than teams in Eredivisie, Portuguese league etc etc.

Re: Serie A in decline?
Juve dont have European pedigree? Good joke.
Also, despite "not having European pedigree", Fiorentina made it to the quarters of the CL a few years ago and went out to finalists Bayern, and Napoli last year went out to eventual winners Chelsea after a second leg collapse. Milan despite not being able to play Balotelli (or Pazzini for the second leg), still beat Barcelona at the San Siro.
I personally dont think Serir A is in decline at all. I think its going uphill actually. Milan is the only team that has gotten weaker this season, but the rest have all gotten stronger recently. Inter got alot weaker a few yeads ago but are steadily rebuilding. Lazio, Napoli, Fiorentina, Roma, Catania, etc have all improved. Juve of course have had a massive turnaround in the last few years. The only teams that have really gotten weaker are Palermo, Milan, and Udinese. But Palermo and Udinese were never powerhouses, and Milan is rebuilding very fast. Theyre one great CB away from being able to play with the big boys again in the CL. Inter are rebuilding slower but are still rebuilding. Serie A is jot on the decline at all in my opinion.

Re: Serie A in decline?
I think Inter would've done better.
Serie A needs Inter back in CL ASAP.

They didn't make to the quarterfinals, they lost against Bayern in the round of 16 in 2009-10 CL.

Re: Serie A in decline?
Anyone not think losing the 4th spot was a good thing for Serie A? I think it is much more enjoyable now.
And in my opinion Serie A has the best strength in depth in Europe. Catania, Chievo & even Palermo are better than teams in the same position in other leagues. They are far more tactically aware in Italy and can make much more use of limited talent than other countries

Re: Serie A in decline?
Not really in decline, but eh top teams have levelled out (best aren't quite as good but there's more competition for European spots.

Re: Serie A in decline?
By an offside goal. And on the away goals rule. They might as well have made it to the quarters.DavidVilla7 wrote:juventus101 wrote:Juve dont have European pedigree? Good joke.

Here's a better thread that we discussed about Serie A's decline/rise, lots of great facts and debates imo

And also I remember Van Bommel doing a Roy Keane tackle and I dont think the ref even blew for a foul in the 1st leg, it was scandalous.
