Vilanova steps down as Barcelona coach after tumor relapse

Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has stepped down from his post after suffering a relapse of a tumor he had removed last year.
The 44-year-old had a tumor on his parotid gland removed last November when he was the club's assistant manager.
He took over the top job after Pep Guardiola stepped down in April this year, signing a two-year contract.
Barcelona are currently nine points clear at the top of La Liga and are reportedly in talks with a replacement for the rest of the season.
They cancelled a scheduled press conference on Wednesday as the news broke.

That's horrible, if a tumor comes back, it's usually there to stay. I hope the poor guy gets a bit more lucky than most do.

Unconfirmed rumours but there's no smoke without fire, and there is plenty of smoke.

If true it seems serious, and he'll have to step down. Let's hope he can fight it off quickly and return to managing. However, most important thing is his life and his health. All thoughts with him.

Edit: It must have been detected very early on if he's going straight to surgery without any chemotherapy. Hopefully this means the chances of success are high.

According to Sport, he has been diagnosed extremely early. He has an inflamated ganglion near the gland where he had cancer. He will have surgery tomorrow and could be back in a month!
