Have we bought any players other than Sturridge! Can't believe Spurs has nicked Holtby, that too for free.

Not yet Ifthi. We don't really look like signing anyone else in this window. Borini is back is like a new signing.

Vegard Forren a surprise name that has come up from nowhere!!!

Yeah it seems like his signing is almost complete. I love Scandinavian players so I'm very excited about this.

1.WTF
2.Who is he?
3. Is he good?
Maybe he could turn out to be another Sami Hypia? A Scandinavian who comes out of nowhere and who we get for cheap(I assume it's cheap).

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
For those that haven't already seen, the initial reports were widely exaggerated and just plain wrong. The player IS at LFC at the moment, but it's for a short trial with a view toward a potential bid. LFC have not made an actual bid for him yet, and there is an as-yet-unnamed Premier League club that is further along in its pursuit of the player.
This all comes from the Echo and Times, both fairly reliable sources.

I agree Donred. While Sahin didn't work out, I think Liverpool fans certainly shouldn't complain about the signing, it was a good bit of business and sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. This time you guys did not get lucky, and you're not facing large side-effects of that- they are quite minimal in fact.
It's unfortunate is all, really.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Southampton are close to signing Norway defender Vegard Forren after the 24-year-old pulled out of a week's trial with Liverpool.
The Molde player had been expected to arrive on Merseyside on Tuesday after Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers invited him for a trial this week.
However, Southampton have now had a £3.5m offer accepted for Forren, who has since travelled to the south coast.
Everton had previously been interested in the defender, only for that to cool.
Liverpool had been reluctant to bid for Forren until they had seen him train with the first-team squad.
Rodgers remains keen on signing a centre-back during the transfer window and is likely to allow Sebastian Coates to go out on loan if he is successful.
BBC.
Two questions: Why would we be looking to sign a CB now in January?
Why Coates is apparently getting pushed out? He has done just fine in the few opportunities he's had.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Coates ISN'T being forced out, Arq. The belief in the club (as those that are close to the club are reporting) is that Coates is a very good young player with a high potential but that he's also currently too mistake prone for us, and the only way to improve that is for him to get regular playing time. So we sign a more composed CB now and loan Coates out for the remainder of the season to get game time. Then Carragher retires in the summer and we have the new defender and Coates as depth behind Skrtel and Agger.
I don't personally mirror that line of reasoning, but can understand where it comes from.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Carragher is as error-prone as Coates, imo. But I hear your last line.
Question to everyone: What do you make of Downing right now? In December it was reported that Rodgers had told him he can leave, but he's started every (?) league game for a while now. He has had some good performances. Happy to have him as a first XI player for the rest of the season or are you hoping to see him swap clubs while a replacement winger being signed?

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
I warn you this form of Donwing will not last. He was already completely invisible in the United game. If Rodgers had any feel about Downings situation, he should get rid of him now when we can actually get some good money for him. I don't even care if we get a replacement this window tbh. He won't be missed at the slightest.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
I agree with Messiah. I just don't believe it, he spent too long playing terribly for a run of 4-5 games to sway my mind. If we sell high, maybe we can bring in a decent replacement now or in the summer.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
To be fair, almost everyone went missing in the first half against united. The thing with Downing is that he offers a true wide presence (the only other player that does this is sterling) and has been good recently.Messiah "Aggerswagger" wrote:I warn you this form of Donwing will not last. My opinion is that we should sell if a good offer comes in, but perhaps not actively force him out. If he stays and his form continues, he could be a valuable alternative, providing something different than most of our other forwards. However, if he goes, I doubt that anyone will be too upset.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Personally I'd keep Downing at least until the summer. He has been rather reliable recently.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
I have a soft-spot for Downing. But I'm sure he will continue to be an average player with some patches of great form. However we should keep him (till summer) as the cover for Borini-Suarez-Sturridge is pretty thin (Rahim, Assaidi, Suso).

Assaidi is fit and playing for Morocco at AFCON, will be interesting to see does he get a sniff of first team action when he returns.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Thought the Sneijder rumors will die down by now. Instead it has taken a turn for the opposite & almost all the journos are reporting it now!!! The Times, Guardian, LiverpoolEcho, Telegraph etc.
Would be interesting to see who we lose him out to!!!

You would think we would all be happy with being linked so strongly to a WC player but instead it's the opposite

Nevermind, just read BR's interview. He basically ended the Sneijder speculation

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
Yep that's what surprised me cause most of the reports came in around the time BR's came out. But why would be the opposite. I guess the major block would be the salary. Sneijder said that money isn't an issue. But how much would he sacrifice!

Cliche as it is, I'm not sure Coutinho will adapt to the PL physically. Also, he'd be competing directly with Suso,
He wouldn't be on my list of potential targets.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2013
The lad really should have pushed for a permanent move, for the sake of his career.
He's simply not going to make it with Liverpool and it's best for both parties if he's sold, IMO.
