Fly-Emirates Bernabeu

The historical stadium which belongs to Real Madrid might not remain as the ‘Santiago Bernabeu’, as Emirates are willing to pay a hefty amount to the club to change its name.

While Real Madrid are famous because of their history and the number of titles they have won in not only Spain but the whole of Europe, their stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, is also famous because of the reputation which they have earned.

The Santiago Bernabeu is not only famous because of the team it represents, but also because of its location and the number of events which it has hosted.

Each and every Real Madrid fan knows that the Santiago Bernabeu is Real Madrid’s home, and each and every opposing team knows that it’s a castle which is hard to break when it comes down to beating a team like Madrid within its premises.

The Spanish giants are famous because they are, without a doubt, one of the most successful sides in the history of football.

Real Madrid have won the highest number of titles in the Spanish La Liga, but the main reason why they are famous is because of the number of European titles which they have won.

The current Spanish champions have won 9 European titles in the past, and the only team which comes close to achieving this much European glory is the Italian side, AC Milan, who have won 7 European titles.

The Santiago Bernabeu opened back in the year 1947 and it was expanded in the year 2011. Since then the stadium can hold a crowd of 85,454 people.

However, the Spanish giants are planning to rename the stadium as a deal with “Emirates” is asking them to do so.

Real Madrid recently signed a shirt sponsorship with the company and it is being reported that the airline company is willing to pay 53 million Euros per season to Real Madrid, only if they change their stadium’s name to “Fly-Emirates-Bernabeu”.

The deal made by the company will see their name on the players’ shirts from the year 2013 onwards. However, for now, reports suggest that this shirt sponsorship might eventually lead up to changing the Santiago Bernabeu’s name in the future.

It's good to have more income but.. but..

As long as Bernabeu stays on there and we can wrangle at least 50m per season I'm happy with that

Sounds stupid, but hey, in the age of naming rights you can't avoid stupid sounding stadia.

I wish that it would become a norm where the stands in a stadium get named after commercial companies, but the actual name of the place remains what it has been. You know, Santiago Bernabeu could have Fly Emirates Lane, BWin Stand, Redtube End etc...

This would be a huge embarassment and a generally horrid idea overall. We dont need the money.

You would rather we stain the name of our stadium with a corporate brand so we have enough money to buy another useless player a la Modric or Coentrao every year? *bleep* that. Emirates Santiago Bernabeu or Fly-Emirates Santiago Bernabeu would be a decent change for 54m a year, that's our transfer kitty right there for every summer. If they want to sponsor the roof and throw in some tens of millions more to get their name somewhere on the new facade it's no problem.

Money is power, it's doing absolutely nothing to the history of Real Madrid, nothing at all, no need to get all sentimental and all.

It's unacceptable IMO....unless.....Emirates makes a long term commitment ie, to ensure that we don't have a revolving door of names........and they find a cooler way to spin it, because Fly Emirates Bernebau is incredibly meh.

If it makes you guys feel better I'm pretty sure Don Santiago would do the same thing if it meant an extra 50 million a year.

I am sure you will all be happy if we put Unicef Bernabeu as a name right?

lol those deals are usually over a long period of time, maybe 5 years or more.

Don Vicente apparently didn't want his name on the stadium in the first place so assuming that is correct, he wouldn't mind changing it and since his club would be getting 50 million euros a year, yup, he would take the name down himself.

Well at least the commentators during broadcast will probably still call it "The Bernabeu".

I would prefer Santiago Bernabeu Emirates. Emirates has no business being named before our legendary president.

I don't have a problem with it, it's not like everyday fans will refer to the stadium by that name anyways.. It would just be for match programs, TV etc

but put the club first. we do need the money.

how can you say we dont need it? every year a new competitor is in the market, splashing cash. we need to stay about them. money talks. its a business.

I dont know, I am really opposed to the idea of changing the name at all. I dont care if its Emirates or Unicef (I actually like Emirates due to personal reasons), I feel that corporate sponsorship in the name of the heart of our club brings Madridismo down just a slight little bit. I see that my opinion isnt one that is shared by many others, maybe that is what is best for the club. But I believe that there are some things that are more important than money.

in what way is madridismo down? explain that to me please
