Re: Rate the Euros 2012
I gave it a 7.
Definitely better than 2010 WC.
There was some historic moments and match-ups. Spain beat Italy in a competitive match for the 1st TIME IN 92 YEARS! Italy v. Germany is always one for the ages.
My biggest complaint of this tournament was the scheduling. Italy, for example, had only 60% of the rest that Germany had for the semis and only 80% of the rest that Spain had before the Final. Also, Italy had to travel from Ukraine to Poland back to Ukraine in knockouts compared to Spain and Germany who did not have to travel far between matches. It is no coincidence that Italy looked completely fried in the Final. They lost 2 players during the match. The Final would have been more competitive if both teams had more rest or equal amount of rest. Why not play SF on weekend (1 Sat, 1 Sun), then the Final the following weekend.
To play a SF on a Thursday then play a Final on a Sunday is insane.

Re: Rate the Euros 2012
Actually, in the group stage Germany had all matches in Ukraine, while the team was hosted in Gdansk, thus Germany had to travel from Poland to Ukraine and back for each group match. They were just lucky that they had their quarter final and semi in Poland as no one did know for sure where they would play as it depended on where they ended up in the group stage.steve_smith wrote:Also, Italy had to travel from Ukraine to Poland back to Ukraine in knockouts compared to Spain and Germany who did not have to travel far between matches.

Thought it was enjoyable to watch! Great to analyse and I feel that this tournament may boost players confidence coming into the upcoming season... I loved the final (Spain supporter of course) though I felt that Spain wanted to prove that they werent a boring side and gave me a 10/10 performance. Pirlo showed glimpses of his greatest years ago though Im hoping VDB does use better tactics heading into the WC. With Puyol and Xavi most likely won't 'go the way', players like Albiol, Ramos, Martinez and even the yougner ones in Barta need to step up and compete for that spot. Hopefully Arbeloa is cancelled out for Juanfran or Montoya (which ever has better form). Been great and Im hoping the next season and of course the Olympics are just as great!

9/10
Mostly good and unpredictable games. Really enjoyed this tournament. A two year wait until the World Cup feels grim right now

I think Puyol will retire from NT football soon but Xavi will be there even for WC 2014.
Re: Rate the Euros 2012
Ah well, if Ramos keeps up these performances and we find a good RB (not Arbeloa) then we aren't really going to be in trouble. Im worried that we many not cope in Brazil conditions...

I also read that news item and liked the Dutch master's comments.
Re: Rate the Euros 2012
Is that the first positive comment Cruyff has ever said about Italy?
