Pepe Deceived us All he's a scrub

1 - Pepe has conceded one foul in 360 minutes at EURO 2012. Collected.

This guy is such a hero. If you discount his distribution from the back which isn't poor by any means but nowhere near the quality of the likes of Luiz, Hummels, Silva etc and rate him purely as a defender there is no one in the World better than him at the moment.

He has it all. Been the best defender in Europe this season and the best defender so far in the Euros. The £35m or whatever fee Madrid payed for him all those years back is now fully justified.

P.S. The cross was unstoppable Mole. Even Baresi couldn't have prevented that goal. :coffee:

Anyway he's a good CB imo. The problem is his distribution, balance and haphazardness from time to time.

It's actually really pleasant to see a non Real Madrid fan actually give Pepe a bit of credit. Even the fans of the club he plays for tend to disregard his talent (I would be included in said category).

All in all, he's having a really fine tournament and would (and should) be included in the tournament's First XI when it concludes...

No he has not. Kompany has been better. I agree though that he is an exceptional defender...when he is not out trying to murder the opposition (or a Barca player)- the frigging psycopath..

He wasn't at fault for Bendtner's header. The cross was sensational there was absolutely nothing he could do about it. Apart from that I can't remember any other goal he was at fault for.

The guy has made goal saving clearance/challenge multiple times, game after game. Both Coentrao and Perreira have had great tournaments and Alves has been solid but because of Nani & Cristiano's unwillingness to track back, Alves's lack of pace & Portugal's general tactics of allowing teams the majority of the ball and hitting them on the counter they've been exposed at times yet Pepe has been a lion at the back. Dealt with pretty much everything so far.

Same Kompany who got terribly exposed outside England? Is easily the best defender in England atm but he was underwhelming in the Europa/Champions League.

Great player but Pepe easily had the much better all round season. He's been immense at the back all year long despite not having any great defenders around him aside from maybe Khedira. Ramos and Marcelo are both extremely error prone. Alonso can't defend and Godbeloa despite the nickname is the definition of "meh".

Mourinho has done wonders for him over the past 2 years. And his game against Barca at the Nou Camp to clinch the title was in my opinion one of the greatest individual defensive performances of the past 10 years. Madrid weren't even parking the bus in that match either.

That is absolute bullshit and you know it not only did Pepe misjudge the flight of the ball he was done for movement by Nicklas fckin Bendtner

He was directly responsible for that goal, if Hummels or any other defender did that we wouldnt hear the end of it..... but because its Pepe it was impossible to stop :bow:

That is'nt the only goal Pepe has been at fault for either...

Seriously Mole, I'm not a Pepe fan by any stretch but it was one of those crosses was that good. Kind of cross that dips exactly at the right moment. Wasn't Pepe's fault or better put, he shouldn't get the bulk of the blame.

It's not really about that Doc, its about Gil is ignoring the fact Pepe has made mistakes but if any other CB made similar mistakes he magnifies 500% but when Pepe does it nothing could have been done about it Laughing

I can guareentee you right now if Ramos made similar mistakes to what Pepe has there would be thread about why Ramos is so crap.

Everyone mentions Pepe and ignores his mistakes? Nothing new.

Yet what I don't understand is how his partner Bruno Alves (remember him?) doesn't get any praise despite being more disciplined than him and saving his lunatic ass at least 3 times throughout the tourney.

He (Gil) obviously likes Pepe more than Pepe's mother. Not like it's something you and I don't do i.e be more accepting of one's favourite player faults while magnifying their positives over 9000.

Do I agree with Gil's Pepe was the best defender in Europe, nope, totally disagree. Personally think it's an overreaction from his rather wonderful performances so far in Euros. But it's also his opinion...
