If it comes to pc Im sure one could make a mod.
Its not that I need to kill children, its just that I like the freedom. I havent tried it yet, who knows, I might enjoy it. Perhaps this can be my new thing.

What annoys me is in games when they include people such as children and then they make them invincible. It kind of ruins the environment. But they'd never add children in AND let you kill them. People would campaign against it day and night and ruin everything Rockstar has built.

Children are tomorrows terrorists, rapists, pornstars and gays. (not that its anything wrong with being gay)They are future gangsters and criminals, and players deserve the opportunity to teach the kids a moral lesson on life.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Thank god the landscape is diverse.
Can't believe they went from San Andreas to GTA IV landscape wise.
Here's a city with some housing areas.
Aaaah excellent, the top of the first island. Oh, more housing areas.
2nd Island? Here's more skyscrapers and a small park in the middle of the city. With a road running through it.
Finally, i'm in the 3rd island. Ooh, more tall buildings followed by housing areas and an industrial estate
It was such a boring layout. You need a mix of scenery. But you're never out of sight of a bunch of f*cking city buildings. That was my main issue with GTAIV along with a distinct lack of things to do aside from missions and mini-missions. Also, shit character customisation.
3 different clothes shops (Perseus has two shops) and no gym. You were forever a pot-bellied Serbian bloke wearing a shit suit or some terrible budget clothes.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Completely agree Tom.
Was playing it recently and one thing that shocked me was how little there was outside the main missions.
Hardly any shops and most of them had little choice and you couldn't even buy vehicles ffs
I know you can steal shit but if i want to buy a sports car i should be able to.... it got to the stage where if i was doing the dating shit i would buy a suit and steal a car from one of the showroom near Pegasus
Hoping new GTA is much more expansive in stuff like that.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yeah you had to use your own imagination to keep yourself entertained outside of missions.
Basically, it was one giant city with hardly any enterable buildings, most of which were run down apartments or the odd standout place that was mission related such as the lawyer firm.
The lack of anything to do was shocking. There's no point having an open world game where the open world is empty. That's what it felt like. Sure they added more intelligent, dynamic people. But how long is watching a man digging a road up really entertaining?
On a side note, you know those random blue people figures that appear on the mini-map. Where you help random people?
You can help that Serial Killer that you keep hearing about in the in-game news that kills the joggers.
They missions are so creepy and funny

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Screw realism and the "more than a videogame" pretentiousness. It doesn't make for as fun an experience in a sandbox world. That's the reason why GTA 4 is the worst GTA for me and I rate Saints Row and Sleeping Dogs more highly in the open world crime genre.
They do seem to have found a good balance from all I've seen so far though, got no doubt this will be GOAT game this gen.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yeah I don't mind realism. It can be great if done properly. But the GTA IV idea of realism was
Step 1: Take out unrealistic elements of the game
Step 2: Don't replace it with anything
Result? A pretty big map which had the most boring scenery out of any GTA by a mile, and nothing to do apart from the generic, realistic crap.
I'm not saying bring back jet-packs and introduce space ships. But the lack of entertainment was disgraceful. Even though I really enjoyed the game, it had no replay value and I'd give it 7.5/10.
Edit: Even when you take friends out for a game of pool or whatever, there's like 2 buildings in the entire map that you can go to. And anything except pool/darts resulted in you driving to a place, watching them go in, watching them come out and driving them home

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yeah, I found myself enjoying it until I finished it of course, Rockstar are GOAT story tellers IMO
But I seemed to just go from mission to mission, whereas in the other GTA's it could take me days to do two missions in a row, I'd get sidetracked doing crazy stuff. Don't think I touched single player after the final mission.
I used to put the cheats on for arming all civilians and making them freak out and attack each other and see how long I could survive

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Loved doing that,
I used to put the 'gangs everywhere' cheat on, recruit a bunch of GSF and have 5 way gang wars on the Las Vegas/Venturas strip.
GTA IV was so empty, felt like a linear game because in-between missions there was more or less nothing. So I ended up just getting a Taxi from mission to mission, because the only thing I would miss was a long drive.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
GTA 4 they focused more on the story i'm absolutely convinced of that so it ended up being just a 20 hr Mafia 2( just like GTA 3 funnily enough then the crazy shit came with VC and SA) and if anything i enjoyed Mafia 2's story more it was just a lot shorter.
But as you both say hopefully GTA 5 will combine a great story with a fantastically realised living and breathing word with lots of things to do.

I completely agree with every single one of you.
Hopefully they fix all that and more...going back to San Andreas (the most GOAT GTA game thus far) is the first step in the right direction and as soon as I found that out I knew I had to buy it at launch. Can't wait for this game.

GTA 4 is one of the, if not the best games of this gen. It does not have a 98 on Metacritic for no reason. inb4rockstarbribedeveryone
Reminds me of the hate Dark Knight Rises got. If a thing is too much of a succes, the internet will drag it down as a failure.

It wasn't a failure, it was a fantastic game it didn't have what an open world game should have. ( i.e. things to do outside the story)
San Andreas and Vice City were both better at releasing an open world with side missions and things to do outside the missions but were not as good as story telling that GTA 4 was.
Hopefully GTA V will combine the two.
No hate here, call it constructive criticism....

It's a good game no doubt it just doesn't hold a candle to SA or VC, with SA being the pinnacle.
I play SA more than GTA IV and I enjoy it more despite it being a lot older and "outdated". The game is still fun as hell and I go back to it from time to time and I enjoy it. Since I finished the story on GTA IV I've rarely gone back to it and the most fun I have is beating up a car and getting it to start on fire in the middle of a busy street so that a chain of cars blow up. Or finding prostitutes to kill because the streets of GTA IV were so infested with STD's I had to save the damn place.
Like Tom said, you had to use your imagination quite a bit. I found that in SA I didn't even need to have much of an imagination, there was stuff to do everywhere. Using your imagination was just a bonus.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Does not hold a candle? Aint that a stretch? It did not have the open world San Andreas had without a doubt, but other things more than made up for it. You could still have a lot of fun outside missions and yes, there are side missions (Most Wanted, Assassination, Strangers, Races, Drug Deals etc) and you could spend an hour on the in game internet and TV shows without feeling bored.
GTA IV is as good as it's predecessors and I am sure GTA V will be too. It's actually near impossible for GTA V to critically top GTA IV unless it gets 10 in every single review.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Lol GTA IV was great, brillaint story telling, I really liked a lot of the characters. But it didn't have the GTA feel.
It was a great game in it's own right, but GTA is an open world game where you can become immersed in the places you go to. How on earth is having very little to do in an open world game a great thing?
If you want to make a game realistic, that's great. But like I said, the steps they took into making it realistic was to remove unrealistic elements from GTA SA but replace it with nothing.
As a standalone game, it was great. And deserved positive reviews. But as a part of GTA, it failed to deliver in the open world aspect.
GTA SA
Learn new combat styles
Recruit allies
Have gang wars
Fly planes
Go up a mountain
Mix country towns, deserts, and cities.
Gamble in a Casino
Get in debt
Get a pilots license and a drivers license
Customise your car
Customise your character
Become a burglar
Be a pimp
Be a taxi driver/vigilante.
etc etc
GTA IV
Get a few types of clothes
Limited character customisation
Can't even pick the colour you want for your car, let alone customise it
No real allies outside of missions
Can do a few activities with friends, after a game of pool and darts, you're not actually doing the activity. You just see the before and after of the activity.
Great game, doesn't give you anywhere near the freedom, entertainment of GTA SA outside of missions.

Not really bothered what reviews say as most of the time they are scared to say what they really think when big publishers are concerned or be controversial.
I mean look at the CoD and Fifa reviews lol.
Also its true it had some side mission stuff but nowhere near enough to keep me entertained it was quite an empty world outside the missions i found, Red Dead did a lot better job at doing this outside the main story.

I never said it had a better sandbox than San Andreas. But it's other things make up for it and made it a worthy GTA and one of the best games. Miles ahead of 7.5.
Trust me, I finished San Andreas like 8 times and lord knows how much I did outside the stories. I missed the open world elements like everyone but that does not make GTA IV not hold a candle to it's predecessors.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Yeah Red Dead is a wonderful game
One thing I will say for GTA IV is the Multiplayer (bearing in mind it was the first time they had proper multiplayer) was underrated.
If people weren't dicks such as people abusing RPG'S (which if you removed led to helicopter abuse) abusing auto aim, constantly changing teams (because you could have like 8 different teams. There would be 8 people in the lobby and you'd have 5 people trying to be on a different team from everybody else) etc then the game would have been great fun online. Plenty of game modes, plenty of ways to piss people off etc.
But as we all know, no matter what game it is, people playing online will find ways to make it boring and repetitive just so they can 'win'
Everybody and their mothers would go straight to the airport, no matter what game mode except from cops and robbers. Resulting in 95% of games ending up with airport team DM's
What I done to combat this on TDM was get 1 kill, and take my mates into a very hard to reach building. Camp it out there and make people rage.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
As for my rating M99, unlike game reviewers I'm taking into account replay value (For an open world game, it had shockingly little.) and how it compares in the open world element to the previous game. Keeping in mind we're talking about what compared to GTA SA is a next-gen game.
But it didn't add anything new outside of the story, it just took away open world elements from the last game.
Sure if you called the game something different, and told me to rate the game based on the story I'd happily give it a 9.
But, it would be wrong not to take what I said into account when you're talking about an open world game. Which bare in mind, is what Rockstar chose to make. Not me.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
It actually had one of the best replay values of any GTA game so far. You could easily do every single thing in other GTA games in one playthrough. GTA IV gave a lot of choices in the story, which tbh does not have any significant impact except for the final part of the game.
I finished every GTA multiple times, that includes the portable titles and DLCs and GTA IV had one of the highest replay values among them. You'd be surprised at the stuff you can do if you comb around the city a bit.
And it's modlled after New York, pretty damn accurate actually so that's why there are so many buildings...that's New York.

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
Really? Well I guess that's your opinion but me and many other people find it very low on replay value.
Yeah the choices suck, I expected more.
And I know everything there is to do on GTA IV, there's not very much to do.
Infact, I remember when I got to the stage I thought the only reason I wasn't finding cool new things to do was because I wasn't looking hard enough, I sat and looked up it all online. Not one piece of info was new to me. Execept the two missions with the serial killer which take up a combined 15 minutes of time.
