Former Head Coach: Jupp Heynckes Empty Is Jupp Heynckes quality?

Is Jupp heynckes a truly elite manager nowadays or is he riding off the work of Van Gaal in a better climate?

He won CL with Madrid in 1998 and got immediately fired.... legendary Laughing Granted, Sanz didn't want to lose out on Del Bosque and made the move to bring in the best Spanish manager...

Oh right its a combination of both, without Van Gaal this team wouldn't be using this philosophy and he started it all even if he didn't finish the project and Heynckes has taken it on again.

I don't think either one can take all the praise.

Usually i agree but its not like Heynckes is a nobody, he's had success at most clubs he has been at so i think the advancements made under him means he should be given a great deal of credit.

The Capello to Van Gaal's Sacchi if you will.

Yup. Jupp is very good working with young players, too. His work at Leverkusen before he went to Bayern was pretty good, too, and he takes a lot of credit for developing Toni Kroos there.

I think if Jupp Heynckes actually goes to Schalke next season as it is rumoured, this will be a good thing for the Schalke young guns like Julian Draxler or Max Meyer.

Both. Heynckes does very good work, but he also gets to preside over the best squad Bayern has had since the '70s. So maybe "elite" is overdoing it, I tend to not go overboard with praise for managers who have squads worth hundreds of milions, but some praise is warranted.

Heynckes instills a great sense of discipline and tactical awareness, while still having his players obviously enjoy their football.

The stars respect him, and he has a way with the very young players as well, has been developing youth quite well wherever he went. What he really does well is balance his teams. Doesn't forget the defence just because he's got some grand master plan, liek van Gaal did. Even while Don Jupp is thinking offensive tactics, and Bayern do have a great attack, he never forgot that not conceding is just as important as scoring.

good, not elite, considering what he has achieved in 30 years you dont expect me to believe that suddenly he transformed into top flight maestro, yes he managed to succeed with the big guns in the past yet he didnt manage to maintain his position at the top level.

this is the same bayern as before him, only better players

He lost the dressing room too. Sanchis and Redondo were de facto leaders when we were in Amsterdam.

Jupp is most definitely a quality manager. One of my favourite German managers and the reason why I watch Bayern as a whole.

He has built a fantastic Bayern side and far better then the one that fraud Van Gaal did. Its fantastic to watch not aesthetically but since the team is tactically so infused with discipline and consistent adaptation to the variances of their system and the oppositions. This team is head and shoulders above everyone in the BL and deserve it.

He won the Champions League after 32 years for Madrid, but Madrid being Madrid, sacked him obviously since their management is clueless as usual.

I obviously remember (retrospect) him for his Athletic Club stint the most as from the countless highlights I saw, Atheltic played a fantastic football under him through his harnessing of Euskadi futbol and its philosophy as a whole which the fans absolutely adored while having them qualify for the UEFA cup. Fans also had a nickname for him similar to the German "Osram", they called him Bonbilla after how his face turned orange at the strangest of times.

His 2nd tenure sadly wasn't as successful but it was forgiveable due to the internal problems of Athletic at the time yet he still carried Athletic with the original Basque roots and did the club proud.

Hopefully he doesn't retire, would love to follow him wherever he goes.

Arq he lost the dressing room at Madrid. There was no point in keeping him on. Especially when we were so bad in every other competition that year. Us winning the CL against Juventus remains one of the biggest upsets in the competition. No one gave us a shot and I don't blame them.

The players came together under Sanchis and Redondo. Juup is a cool guy but we didn't win because of him. Besides it's not like we regretted replacing him with Del Bosque anyway.

If he wins the CL, how would anyone but him get the credit?

Anyway, I wanted to ask this but couldnt be bothered making a thread.

Why are Bayern replacing him if he isnt retiring?

I took it as fact he was retiring, which is why they want Pep...but I now learn that may not be the case...so why get Pep? He is doing a great job already.

the thing is pep was available and jupp was being discreet over his contract
so id have to guess that they did not want to miss out on 2 great coaches etc etc etc

He got asked today whether he'll ask Guardiola for help against Barca.
I would've choked that journalist to death.

Who the f*ck do they think they are? Jupp has been a top level coach for decades, Guardiola wasn't even able to use a toilet when Don Jupp was already a BMG legend.

Short attention span killing meaningful journalism. -.-
