Silvestre: 'I want Palermo exit'

Matias Silvestre has declared he wants to leave Palermo. “I want to play for an ambitious club that takes part in European competition.”

The Argentine defender joined from Catania last summer, but was unimpressed with a campaign that saw three Coaches and several directors move through the club.

“It’s true, I expected more,” he told TMW. When I accepted the move to Palermo, I thought we’d be challenging for the Europa League. Instead, the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. I am certainly regretful on how the season ended.

“Next season I want to play for an ambitious club that takes part in European competition. I heard talk of many clubs interested in me and I am the right age to take that step up in quality. I want to do that from next year.

“Obviously whoever wants me will have to pay the price-tag that Palermo are asking for, but I would very much like that to happen. I want to take that next step.”

Silvestre has been linked with the likes of Roma and Milan, while he is determined to stay in Serie A.

“I prefer not to say which club I’d prefer, but I do want to challenge on a big stage. I feel ready for that. I’d like to continue playing in Italy and I know there are important clubs who want me.

“Mind you, if an overseas side did come calling, then I’d certainly think about it. Naturally I also thank Palermo for having believed in me.”

This one is beast and one of the best quality in serie a

well i still think we need CB backup i would have n problem with him on the team id rather have only one more CB such a Sorensen and then buy players like kolarov and another RB

U asked his age & then u just turned ur back on him once u knew he was over 25...
The man is a good player & if u didn't know
Defenders are said to begin to prime near their 30's(Barzagli is a great example)..
Sorenson is a great player & one I want to see do well at Juve but the man needs to stay at Bologna & develop one more season..
i'd welcome Silverstre...

Alot of quality players don't get a real chance at greatness just because of the club they play for...even when they have they quality to do more than some of the over hyped ones...

Plays like Balzaretti,Di Natalia,Miccoli,etc could've been world class & world famous if they had represented so bigger clubs...but that don't mean they are great quality just the same...

He has 5 goals this season..I watched the match vs Lazio (where Lazio was embarrassed 5 goals to 1) & he score a pretty sweet header to make it 3-0
The videos I see of him are all last season & not good quality but I'll search for his goals to let u see some...

He scored the 3rd goal @ around 2:12 in the video

He score the 2nd goal for Palmero & the 3rd in the match..

Sweet vids he looks like a dangerous aerial threat. He could be like another Caceres who starts certain games and provides depth. He could rest Barzagli also.

Does he want to keep the 3-5-2 long term? Then a quality CB signing might be nice.

If not...

Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli, Caceres for two spots isn't that bad.

At this point, Silvestre would be another 'quantity' signing.

Lets try and improve the starting 11 before the depth of the team this time.

Bring back Sorenson and leave CB alone.

Bring back Sorenson ,we have Caceres who can play CB too ,make his move permanent.

I honestly dont want spend 6-8 m on a 27 yrs old defender..Rather prioritize on other areas than buying a defender.

You know people need to stop supporting every move being suggested in the rumor mill.

PDC is a weak point in our current champions squad. He plays because we don't have others. The 3-5-2 was developed only because Conte likes to play wide and we did not have the players he needed to field a winning 4-3-3. We still lack a LB in my opinion because Chiellini is a CB! Chiellini + Barzagli for CB, Bonucci for rotation and Caceres for backup. I think Conte wants to play 4-3-3 again and to do that, efficiently he will need a couple of new players to raise the level..


This term we didn't have the players to play a 4-3-3. What im saying is that i guess we will be looking to add quality players for striking force and left back. We could and should spend something like 60 million € on 3 players only! (excluding talented backup such as Pogba, Verratti etc) I see us signing a top striker such as Damiao for around 25-30 million €. Then Giovinco could return for us as the second striker or maybe even Robin van Persie who is soon to be out of contract and therefore very possible should he not negotiate a new with the gunners. Finally i guess we'd sign one of the in-favored left backs such as Kolarov, Armero, Cissokho, Criscito etc.. That should cost us around 60 million € and that would make the 4-3-3 solid for next year - having depth in multiple positions if you think about it..

Very injury prone.
He is not going to hold up through serie a alone, let alone the champions league.

only if we can get him for free...Caceres permanent will already see us spending for that position and more

otherwise...with Caceres permanent and Sorensen back, i think we are pretty covered in CB position.

This is a better answer compare to LWL91's saying "De Ceglie is weak & the weak point in our squad."
As I said many time...De Ceglie is the best left back in Serie A & I have no reason to think differently...but I must agree with u about him being injury prone...
I want to know...since his return to the squad....what big mistake has he made that anyone can highlight to say he is the weak link in the team or not first team material?
The man has been very solid...Conte has done wonder's with him

Sorenson needs more time...he will develop greatly if he remains in Bologna on more season...I watched a match vs Cagliari where he came on as a sub & he was superb!
He was dictating play from the back,good positioning & looked alert...
Bologna is a team that upsets the big teams (as they beat Inter twice & drew with Milan & Juve twice this season) & most time are on the back foot & sometimes relegation threaten...If he stays there...he'll have alot to do next season & help him get better...

Caceres is a way better RB than CB...
Deadly crossing & speed...
Right now...we need an experienced CB & Silverstre is a good player for that!
