I agree with this.

Seems like the teams are competing to be the next best team after the ones who made the elimination round of CL.
Second rate trophy to me.
Ya ok cool story, not all of us choose a top 5 team to support. Don't discredit a trophy because it is still an accomplishment!!

Re: Is Europa a major trophy?
TBH I think it depends on perceptions, winning the Euro League is still hard as hell and I'm pretty certain most Bundesliga sides would take a Euro Cup win over the Bundesliga title, except maybe Bayern.
That being said, it's certainly and obviously dwarfed by the CL and it has the bitter taste of being the losers cup, but the competition is of high quality and hte matches were entertaining as hell this year.
Should neither be under- nor overrated, it's not the UCL, but it's still European competition and some high class teams play there. And it's knockout so you have to win pretty much all of it to win it, at least on aggregate, while you can win your league and still never win against a team that finishes below you.

I think it is a major trophy
You have teams like Man City, Utd, Dortmund, Pool etc etcd who have all been unsuccessful in Europa in recent years.
In European football I would put it behind winning your league and the UCL but ahead of everything else imo

Switch the CWC with League Cup though. I think by league cup you mean Copa del Rey, FA Cup, Coppa Italia, Pokal etc?

No. The CWC is far more prestigious than the League Cup. They're champions of the world, after all.

Yes, but we're not talking about quality of competition. We're talking about prestige, and the CWC is undoubtedly more prestigious than the FA cup and its equivalents.

The FA cup is the oldest football competition in the world. You can't get more prestigious than that

I think the current DFB-Pokal win is far more prestigous than the CWC in Germany as you have Bayern vs Dortmund, which is a real match of honour and pride this time.

Leave it, Ali. I was in a good mood earlier and didn't mention that, before winning the FA cup last year, they went double my age in years without winning shitAli"The Superman"8775 wrote:I don't know if you noticed, but Thierry Henry has won more trophies than your club ever has.

The Cup, be it of any country, is a Season long competiton. One third of a treble. The CWC is one of those little scrappy ones you get after winning the big trophies the previous year. The only reason it matters is the sweet golden badge you got on your shirt, otherwise it means nothing. Cup>>

13 time champs and a genuine big club. I'd take those stats rather than being on the verge of equalling Huddersfield Town in 3 league titles.

OT- CL's ugly sister's cup. The fact that even Villa and Spurs decide to play their reserves in it, and the fact that most people didn't even realise the final was today tells you everything you need to know about it.
IMO-
CL
League title
FA Cup
Europa League

very entertaining tournament and credit to these teams i guess
Bayern Munich 2006 was a bad squad...
Re: Is Europa a major trophy?
Honestly, City didn't give a shit about this. We played weakened lineups and still were never outclassed. We went out because of away goals rule (aggregate was the same)...and I'm *bleep* glad we went out. It would have been to distracting on the league.Crimson wrote:I think it is a major trophy

Re: Is Europa a major trophy?
I honestly think for the most part it'll never be a top trophy just because of where it fits in the schedule for most clubs. Thursday games are great to watch, but most clubs play their matches on Saturday and Sunday which leaves little time to recover or field a very strong team.
If they were to move the games to the same day as the Champions League then I would be inclined to think the bigger teams would care more.
Either way, I really enjoy the football played in the Europa league, but I can see why it isn't considered as prestigious as say the League Title or Domestic Cups of those participating.

Re: Is Europa a major trophy?
i think so.. obviously not as big as a league title or CL but i think it is the tier below. id rather have europa league title than cdr personally.. but then again that would mean no cl.
big teams that are in cl consistently would rather have a domestic title like cdr or fa cup. but smaller teams i feel like would rather have europa league than the before mentioned domestic title like cdr.
personally being a madrid fan if we qualified for cl but got the europa league spot in the group stages id rather win europa league than cdr. IMO

those are weakened line ups yeah right. whenever a "top team" gets knocked out it always seems to be because they "weren't trying" or played a weaker line up. just excuses.
anyway it would be more prestigious if fans of the big bandwagon clubs didn't insult it so much.
ways to improve improve it would be change the name back. srs uefa cup sounded so much better. a name that has history to it. this tournament once was prestigious. also dont let the third team in the group stages participate in it. thats what really gives it the losers trophy look. lastly give the winner a champions league spot, at least in the qualifying rounds.
