Re: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Thread
CONCACAF will make their decision tomorrow onto whether they will let Mexico call-up 5 replacements for the 5 players who tested positive for Clembuterol.
everything seems to point to that these 5 players will be punished. They brought up the Sergio Mendoza trial where he was banned 1 year from playing futbol because he tested positive for a banned substance that was found in his cold sore ointment.

Reporters from Charlotte are saying that 6 Cuban players fled...
Not gonna act like this wasn't inevitable.

Ouch...

Also, LOL at the Cuban players that fled already.
That banned substance shit really hurts Ochoa more than the rest of the group. I just read Paris St Germain was trying to sign him, this can only hurt his status and hopefully he still finds a way in to Europe this summer. Also hurts Maza Rodiguez's status as well

Re: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Thread
I heard Cuba only brought 18 players.. only 1 sub left
El Salvador vs. Costa Rica.
Kicks off at 6:36 Central US Time. A lot of Ticos and Salvatruchos, but as usual, Mexican fans are really packing the stadium. Mexico plays second so I expect this stadium to be near full capacity like when they played Iceland there last year.

Re: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Thread
Those five Mexican players are selfish pricks, putting their own personal desires above any risk that they could cause their team. I doubt that CONCACAF lets them call up some reserves, not for a crime like this one.
LMAO at the Cuban players jumping ship, they probably should have waited and played a couple more games, but I can't hate, who knows what I would have done in the same situation.

ESPN just said that the Cuban team is intact, just a rumor apparently.
And im sad about the news, im still hopefull it really was bad meat and not negligence.

Can someone please explain me what happened? Three of the five players that were accused of doping are key players for their clubs and are good players for the national team. Was the Mexican Football Federation at fault for this? I heard they are saying it was the food that made them positive.

Mexican Football Federation received the positive tests from a test done on May 21. The players are suspended from gold cup until the investigation is complete. CONCACAF is to meet Friday to decide if Mexico can replace the players or not. Apparently they believe that it was contaminated meat. FIFA and CONCACAF had not decided on any further sanctions. He said the Mexican Soccer Federation is waiting for word from both governing bodies to determine the future of the suspended players.

Oh, all right. Thanks, I was just informed minutes before the match started and I was confused about what has happened.

Re: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Thread
El Salvador asking for points.. we'll see if Mexico will finish with 6 points.
Costa Rica will have to field their best line-up available which will include Bryan Oviedo and Bryan Ruiz in the starting XI against Mexico, because for all we know, El Salvador can put 6 past Cuba and beat Los Ticos for 2nd place on Goal Differential.
Will be an interesting final group game, I'm also pretty sure Chepo doesn't want to lose to Costa Rica, add 5 players gona, they don't have much to work with on the bench.

I'm anxious to see if Jamaica is anywhere close to the real deal. I don't think so, but I hope that they surprise me.

Re: 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Thread
300 million people and we can't pop out one decent CB pair?
Edit: I wonder if we play poorly enough during this tournament if Bradley will get fired?
I might be willing to fall on that grenade

I still think the effects of that loss to Spain still lingers, despite the win over Canada....
