What's funny is that Van Der Sar had to watch United use the same tactics he is blasting in Rome

This makes no sense, why would he respect Chelsea?Nameless wrote:I dont get it..VDS has lost 2 CLs because of barcelona, and now he wants Barcelona to win the match against Chelsea and qualify themselves to final. He lost 2 CLs while trying to play football, he doesn't want to see Barca beat by some that don't. He's dutch, after all.Nameless wrote:I dont get it..VDS has lost 2 CLs because of barcelona, and now he wants Barcelona to win the match against Chelsea and qualify themselves to final. I don't think you quite got the irony intended in that post :vagi:Barrettinator wrote:+1BarrileteCosmico wrote:These dutch people talk like they own football or something
Bullshit. How did United park the bus in Rome?Zealous wrote:What's funny is that Van Der Sar had to watch United use the same tactics he is blasting in Rome

Im not saying that he should respect Chelsea, but only giving credit to them that they won against barcelona. He lost 2 Cls coz of barca, he should be butthurt over it (I know I would have been) but he tends to disrespect Chelsea and how they approached to the game against barca. Even tho the outcome was Chelsea winning 1-0 at Bridge.Ganso wrote:This makes no sense, why would he respect Chelsea?Nameless wrote:I dont get it..VDS has lost 2 CLs because of barcelona, and now he wants Barcelona to win the match against Chelsea and qualify themselves to final. Rooney was playing RB, Ronaldo was a lone forward Drogba style.
United weren't exactly an attacking threat after the first ten minutes, as the game went on they retreated into their shell.

I agree Parking the bus is wrong!!! Just wrong! Can't have that in football
diving to get a penalty and your opponent sent off is ok, though...

They weren't a threat because Barcelona dominated, not because of a strategic decision to play narrow football with close lines and only one loan targetman that depended not on support from his teammates but from individual mistakes. There's a world of difference between what Chelsea did and what United did.Zealous wrote:Rooney was playing RB, Ronaldo was a lone forward Drogba style.

Re: For the sake of football, Barcelona must beat Chelsea, blasts Van der Sar
Yes Chelsea parked the bus, because we were easily out-talented against Barca. Then, this is basically taking revenge for 2009. Its not a pleasant site to see, I would have loved to see Chelsea play attacking football and beat Barca, or any other team. And they can say all the time with all the would have, could have, should have scored stuff but we did score! Its all about results in the end. Parking the bus is a tactic when u know that u r going to be outplayed any other way.
Drogba diving all over the place was not nice to see, but when Barca did that non of this so called big named ex-players were to be seen. They just come out of their glory holes when they are butt hurt!

Chelsea want a champions league win at all cost.
I can't blame them. They must do what they must to succeed.

In few years time no one will remember the tactics, everyone will only remember who won the match...
excellent tactics by Chelsea and I hope they repeat it again

It wasn't the same at all...
Chelsa vs Barcelona
Chelsea had 1 shot on target, 4 in total.
Barcelona had 6 shots on target, 24 in total.
Barcelona vs Real Madrid
Barcelona had 3 shots on target, 14 in total.
Real Madrid had 6 shots on target, 14 in total.
The fact that we let you have your precious possession doesn't mean squat if we create more danger than you. We sent players forward at every opportunity. But didn't tire ourselves when you did your usual tiresome possession routine, looking for space for Messi that didn't exist due to excellent defending.
PBW, i think Madrid had a huge advantage in that they did not have to win this match, but we had to. So Barcelona wanted to hold more possession in Madrid's half near their attacking third so that Messi and co could get more chances to score. And they did create chances.
Once Madrid got their goal, they were content conceding space in their half for a compact defense. But Barcelona had to get a win, so they pushed up more and held possession far up the field which left a lot of space behind and Madrid capitalized.
If this were a typical clasico, you might have seen a more balanced approach from Barcelona and they would not have left space behind.
Thing is that we did attack every time we had possession. You then have two choices. To bring the tempo down and build an attack slowly. Or take some risks and counter our counter (with the risk of it being a gung-hoo game, similar to the one we played against Bayern until we decided to try to keep it at 1-1). This Barcelona never does the later and thus always face a very compact defense since you slowly push teams down into their own half. The exception is if you face a team that is dead set on playing a high defensive line.
The Barca of 05-06 was much faster at exploring space with a counter and didn't see possession and tempo control as the be all, end at all that Peps Barca do.

Well, you cannot fault Barca's attack strategy and tactics, because very good chances were set up which were squandered. This Barcelona team is way more effective than the Barca team of 05-06 in terms of creating chances. Finishing let the team down.
Hopefully, they take the CL now.

from a neutral point of view i must say this: stop crying. yes, chelsea's approach was shitty, boring and stuff, but so what? what else are they going to do? pretend that they can play on level with the blaugrana and get beaten to death? i think it was very intelligent. it's the only way. real madrid beat them the same way (but they attacked more than chelsea)

so what were chelsea supposed to do, out tiki-taka barca? or throw everyone forward? the only way we could avoid a flogging is to park the bus and ride out or luck, which we did
and really wouldnt football be better off if the underdog gets a win rather then barca crush us and get into another CL final

Re: For the sake of football, Barcelona must beat Chelsea, blasts Van der Sar
"I watched Chelsea defend for 90 minutes and I was appalled they did not try to make something more of the game. I have no admiration for Chelsea’s approach," Koeman stated to the Daily Mirror.
"And let’s face it, this tie could have been all over by now. Barcelona could easily have won in London. Let’s hope football will be the winner this week and the team with the best approach goes to the final.
"It is the moment when a team like Chelsea have the chance to create something and they won’t, which annoys me. As a team, you can’t sit back and wait for Barcelona all the time."
Ronald Koeman. lol
Man I so hope Chelsea thug rugby their way into the final

The attacking football vs defensive tactics argument has been going on since the 60s.
There will always be teams who defend, and teams who attack. Both are legitimate strategies.

I think some people like VDS still don't understand that Barce do play defensive at times with the ball in possession. And honestly that's more boring than Catenaccio. I hate tbh. That's not football

Re: For the sake of football, Barcelona must beat Chelsea, blasts Van der Sar
No one is criticizing Chelsea for tactics. They did what they could, and how they could and got a result. In the end, result is what it matters.
However, when playing totally defansive, you have to be ready to accept comments from neutrals, as that way of playing is not interesting to most of the football fans. People like to see teams attack, and will feel that the team defending with almost all men are making the game somewhat boring. However, this does not mean that Chelsea did anything less then Barca, it is just a matter of taste and football philosophy.
