Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
Please, Shelvey and Carroll to start, please.
I can see us controlling the midfield, but which team shall get the goals is another matter. Like it's been all season long.
I'd go:
Doni
Flanagan - Skrtel - Coates - Enrique
Gerrard - Shelvey - Spearing (or Henderson) - Downing
Suarez - Carroll

I'd give Agger a rest since he's just coming back from injury and we need him in the FA cup against Everton on Saturday.

Give him another sub appearance so that he can get back up to game tempo. He's been out for a while, and it would be a big ask to throw him into the semi final on one sub appearance. I want to see Coates start. We haven't seen him since the QPR game and the wonder-goal.

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
If Agger starts we'll win comfortably. If Agger comes of the bench we won't lose. If Agger doesn't play, I see another 1:0, 2:1 loss.
I personally want him rested and maybe a 20 minute comeo appearance at te end of the game.

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
What I'd play:
Doni
Flanagan* Skrtel Coates Aurelio**
Downing Henderson Shelvey Maxi***
Kuyt Carroll
* Off for Kelly / Johnson ; whoever recovers first.
** Off for Agger
*** Off for Bellers
Gerrard and Suarez to be rested.
Enrique has been poor recently, not sure for fatigue or what not but Aurelio can step in to do the job.
Maxi cause he hasn't played in a while. As as Coates. Most likely see Carragher though. :\
Henderson + Shelvey to help develop them in the centre and create a better understanding.
Downing so he can feel important.
Carroll and Kuyt as well... the only options up top. >.>"

- Maxi played on the left can lend goals on occasion (when he's feeling lucky).
- Downing on the right. I've made no attempt to hide the fact that I see Downing as a wide forward on the right, if he stays at the club. Additionally, in the past (at Villa) he has been a goal-threat on the right.
- Hendo and Shelvey start together. These two could be the future 'Pool midfield. I would prefer pairing them with a third, more defensive midfielder in Spearing, but starts and game time in the center will help these two.
- Aurelio in for Enrique. Jose's been relatively poor. Bench him for this one to "rest" him / shake him up a little going into the FA Cup on Saturday. Hopefully, Aurelio can stay fit long enough to limit Agger's appearance to 15-20 minutes. Much more could be detrimental to his recovery for the weekend.
- Coates and Flanno in defense. YOUTH GETS A CHANCE! SCISSOR KICKS! PACE IN DEFENSE! Need I say more?
-Doni... okay so this isn't a choice, but he did look relatively solid after the one cross was botched. I don't even think that could be considered solely his fault. It was really a culmination of errors, and Herd's shot was a beauty... More time for Doni before the weekend can only help.
This is likely what we will see. (Unless Kenny stubbornly refuses to sit Suarez.) However, I would propose one alteration with a view to development and preparation for the FA Cup.
--------------Doni
Flanno - Skrtel - Coates - Aurelio
-----------Spearing
--------Hendo - Shelvey
Kuyt---------------------- Maxi
-------------Carroll
Shake it up a little. Give some other players a chance... I mean, why not at this point?

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
I call for Agger to take most of our free kicks if in a shooting distance/position and If Gerrard is on the bench/injured. Adam, Bellers, and Suarez have really been wasting many good fk opportunities and I feel as though Agger needs but a few to grab a goal here and there from the set piece.
I personally think Agger strikes the ball better than everyone bar Gerrard in the team.

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
What a stunning match. I cannot describe the rollercoaster ride this was as given our unfortunate luck with GKs.
Doni, pretty much has proven what a bidone he is as from day 1 I could not fathom why we brought a man who was back-up to a poor GK in the form of Julio Sergio. His attempt to save was just
Luckily, Brad Jones came on to save a penalty. He couldn't do much about their first goal and surely would not save a penalty twice. Very happy for the man who just lost his son. Give him the spot over Doni please.
I personally Flano despite his reckless challenges as he is growing on me with each performance. Johnson did not provide anything in attack and was even worse in defence (what a surprise). Skrtel and Coates were solid despite the latter looking a bit nervous.
Maxi? Proved me wrong with his instinctive finishes and wonderfully intelligent movement to catch a brace. Hendo was poor today as once again he shows that the wide role isn't for him. Jonjo did not impress today as his decision making was near infuriating as at times I can't understand what he is thinking. Spearo was average defensively but provided some tenacious efforts in attack. Bellers to me was a livewire and caused consistent problems to their backline while Carroll was very impressive with his intelligent hold up play and lay offs. His end goal just brought laughter to me of pure joy as no one else but him deserved this. Kenny needs to play him more now. Vamos Andy.
In the end, what made me even more happy was the relief this might bring on Kenny and the overall pressure upon the club. It may be useless for the league, but the win is massive considering it will give us the morale boost needed for the FA cup and for the team in general.

Well for this I apologize Messia as its callous to consider our season useless as especially when you've given me this new perspective. I agree.
And NISH! Make your wonderful threads buddy. Hope you feeling better now

Harsh on Doni and Henderson there.
Flanagan's backpass was poor. Not much Doni could do in that case. He tried to scare Hoilett, but ended up dropping him. It happens. I mean, I've seen him at Roma... he's like Gomes, but he certainly doesn't deserve to get slated after that.
If you watch the game again, Henderson gave it his all. He never stopped running. Sure, he got beat once or twice... but he was playing in a position that is foreign too him. He also got into dangerous attacking positions.

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
You could argue that Doni was unlucky with Flanno's backpass, but his challenge was absolutely woeful. He tries to make the tackle with his feet at first; changes his mind and tries to dive; and eventually ends up doing neither, making some sort of rugby-tackle on Hoilett. If he dives or attempts a tackle with his feet and gets beaten, it's 2-1 and we're still in the lead, dominating possession, playing with 11 men and have a choice of keeper in the FA Cup.ynwa wrote:Arquitecto wrote:YNWA

Hendo on the other hand, put in a good shift. He looked good in the early stages as part of the midfield triangle with Spearing and Shelvey. After the red card, he was forced into a much deeper role than he's ever played on the right side. For not being a RB, and never having played the position, I thought he did well there.

Re: KEANE IN vs. HitthepostPool
Our keepers had shockers, this doesn't bode well for Saturday...
Flanagan had a shocker, too, not only his dreadful backpass, he could have been sent off for two yellows before that with his poor tackles. He's still learning, though.
Carroll was superb, like Arq said, his lay-off and hold up play was fantastic! And that winning goal tasted so sweet..
Maxi was a beast
Rest of our midfield had an indifferent game, imo. Bellamy didn't look as sharp as he used to in mid-season.
But overall a game that would have been entertaining even for the neutral. That hasn't been the case too often in our games this season..
