R. Keane to LA Galaxy
Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane is on his way to Los Angeles where he will undergo a physical ahead of signing a two-year, $8 million contract with Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy, sources confirm to FOX Soccer's Eric Wynalda.
Keane is currently under contract to Tottenham Hotspur of the Barclays Premier League, where he has played since January 2009, his second stint with the North London club. The former Spurs captain has been sent on loan in each of the last two seasons, spending time with both Celtic (Scotland) and West Ham United (England).
The 31-year-old striker has also appeared for Coventry City (England), Internazionale (Italy), Leeds United (England) and Liverpool (England) during a professional career that started in 1997.
Keane scored a career high 23 goals (54 appearances) for Tottenham in 2007-08 before moving to Liverpool. After half a season at Anfield, Keane transferred back to White Hart Lane, where he has been unable to recapture a place in the team under manager Harry Redknapp.
Internationally, Keane holds the record for most goals scored for the Republic of Ireland, for whom he serves as captain. His two goals against Macedonia on June 4, 2011 pushed him to 51 goals in 108 appearances.
Should Keane complete his signing, Los Angeles will be forced to move one of the three Designated Players currently on their roster. Major League Soccer rules allow each team up to three players whose salaries, which would otherwise cause the team to exceed the league's $2,675,000 salary cap, only cost $335,000 toward the team's wage limit.
David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Juan Pablo Angel each fill Designated Player slots for the Galaxy.

No surprise at the move, really, what with Keane being a lifelong Galaxy fan and all.

How many Irish are in LA? If he were to bide his time in Scotland and Ireland for another couple years I'd imagine he'd get quite the reception playing in New York for the Cosmos in 2013.
