offside in defense: you have to be 10m infront of the play the ball (which is where the main ref will stand) and you cant breach that 10m gap till the dummy half (guy who picks up the ball after its rolled by the perso who got tackled) touches the ball

offside in attack: you have to be behind the player who kicks the ball when he kicks it

knock-on: if the ball i dropped backwards play on, if its dropped forward its a scrum to the defending team

if your talking about in defence then starting from the sideline it goes:

winger-centere-one of the halves-2nd row-front rower-hooker-front row-second row-etc

and the FB stands behind the line of defence
alsthough thats a generalisation as you've always got players at marker and your not always going to fall back into the perfect order, this would just be a default lay out
