Re: Napoli - Chelsea
Napoli just couldn't cope with the long balls, the pace, power. Proper pub teams stuff .Everytime they were put under pressure they seem to crumble.

So true. Chelsea pounded them with crosses, long balls to Drogba, physical pressing and a really, old fashioned England style.
The backline didnt do well with it at all and they seemed to lack an outball which they had constantly in the 1st leg.
Completely different attitude from the 1st leg from Napoli and a very different approach offensively from Chelsea.

Re: Napoli - Chelsea
I think it all falls down to how Napoli approached this tie, given their goals advantage, the crisis in the club before Di Matteo stepped in, and their aging, slow squad, Napoli were seen as favorites walking out of Stamford still in CL.
They played very daft. They couldn't string passes together and relied on Lavezzi the carry the ball and leg it for them. Chelsea were brilliant in pressuring them and cutting them from their fluid passing and setting up their own attacks. Ramires was absolutely brilliant tonight. You might of seem me around criticizing Ramires for being too much of a headless chicken, please slate me for I was so wrong. He's been massive for the club in pressuring, retaining, and carrying the ball forward.
Only in the dying minutes we saw Napoli contain the ball and play their game without having Chelsea intervene. A style that should've been utilized from the opening to last minute of normal time. I think Napoli came to Stamford with their heads held too high.
Well done Chelsea in playing a Napoli-esqe game. Pressured them into mistakes and had them pay for it.
RDM does it for Chelsea again.

Re: Napoli - Chelsea
The only reason Napoli do not progress is because they have no one to replace Maggio. They only have one team, no substitutes for many positions. Hopefully, Chelsea will draw Bayern to see how they compare to a full strength Napoli.

Re: Napoli - Chelsea
Napoli said all the right things pre game.
"We know under a new coach they will have a better mentality"
"The tie is far from other, we have work to do".
"Chelsea are still a very strong side"
But they played without any of that respect, they played very laxidasical for a team in the position they was in.

Yeah, they only lost because Maggio was injured.

He is one of their key players. And its quite ironic that the player who replaced Maggio in the game(Dossena) cost Napoli the tie with that penalty.
I'd like to believe things would have been different had Maggio still been there. They would've lost the game but atleast would have held out.
Still no excuses though.Poor perfomance all-round and they were not their usual selves. They are not a mentally strong side it has to be said.
And please stop being so arrogant..It is really annoying..Last week it was Bundesliga for you and now its Serie A i'd assume.

Yes, thats it.
ffs, stop being so redicilous.
I didnt say, "your a retard"...I called his logic, " a new level of retarded having been reached" (paraphrasing)
If you want me to follow the rules to letter of the law, tons of people would be gone by now.
Perhaps Crimson calling people "idiots" deserved a warning level down? No...it was a minor thing, noone was even insulted.
Now, mind your buisness, if your so upset, go PM someone.
I got warned for it.

campagnaro is a diaster in this game. fault at pretty much every goal. im shocked a bit to see napoli like this...
Be/\/ceCALI wrote:As bad as Campagnaro has played, to me Aronica has been Napoli's liability this game. He's also very lucky the ref didn't give a penalty for how he was holding Drogba down in the box.
And yeah, Maggio is a big loss.
Not an expert on Napoli, but isnt Maggio "just" a RB? Or RWB? They still had the 3 starting CBs who were just completely bossed by Drogba, Liverpool style Its a bit sad to see NApoli promise to much and I like their football....but Chelsea seriously showed up and physically owned the game and Napoli's weak mentality away from home still seems to be an issue?
And I agree that Aronica guy was terrible.
