Remaining Schedules...
Over the course of the next two months of league play, Liverpool have the ability to decide the fate of their season. Let’s have a look at the 13 fixtures with an emphasis on the run between March 3rd and May 5th:
- Arsenal – March 3rd
- Sunderland
- QPR
- Wigan
- Newcastle
- Aston Villa
- Blackburn
- Fulham
- West Brom
- Norwich
- Chelsea – May 5th
- Swansea
- (Everton reschedule)
Looking at these matches, we only have 3 matches left against sides that are above us in the table. In all honesty, each and every game remaining is winnable. That is not to say that I think we will take the full 39 pts that are available (I’m not delusional… It would be sweet, though, wouldn’t it?). I am merely saying that we are perfectly capable of winning each individual contest. It is even more interesting when you consider the schedules of the other remaining contenders for the fourth spot. In the same time frame, Newcastle must play Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City (and us); Arsenal have to play Tottenham, Newcastle, Man City and Chelsea (and us); and Chelsea have to play Man City, Tottenham, Newcastle and Arsenal (and us). From this analysis, you can come to several conclusions:
1.)ManUtd are favorites to win the league. Seriously, they’ve already gotten past most of the top 7. Man City may end up winning it, but United have the better schedule from this point out.
2.) Liverpool play the least amount of games within the top 7 of those teams competing for 4th place. LFC – 3 matches ; Newcastle – 4 matches; Arsenal and Chelsea– 5 matches
Given this, it should be obvious that we are not out of the hunt. Yes, we are currently in seventh, and we’ve had some disappointing results. However, we have the opportunity to string together a run near the end of the season that could see us pick up points quickly. I’m not ignoring our problems, nor the obvious criticisms (lack of scoring, draws at home to lower sides, inconsistent performances, etc.). It has just seemed that a run of disappointing results and the resurgence of the racism row have combined to suck the life out of this section. I thought we could all use something a bit more positive to discuss.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
There is some obvious bias in there, BUt as i see it, We hae no more than one room for error.
What i did for important matches-
Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal
Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea
Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool
I know we have just about 20% chance of making it too 4th, Its gonna be Chelsea most probably, But i dare to dream. We can afford to slip up in just one game, And hopefully its not any of the above 3.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
A very nice thread, I like the effort and idea
All three clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal have dropped plenty of points against "weaker" oppositions and I'm quite sure it will continue to some extent. So it's wide open - although our form hasn't been convincing and I'm therefore not all that hopeful of us finishing 4th, but we will see.
Anyway, Carling Cup final will be sweet, but I still can't wait for seeing us in action in the league again!

Re: Remaining Schedules...
Liverpool struggles against small teams because Pool are more of a good defensive team than a creative team.

Yet, We have most number of crosses, Most number of shots, 2-3rd most number of chances created through open play, Suarez would be topping te most number of dribbles or shots even though he has missed 6 PL games.
And not to mention the 21 times we have hit the post

Hey we have a chance.Things need to go considerably better for us than anyone else though, everyone else is under performing, we're about doing as well as we can with out talent, same as Newcastle basically.
I'm a beleiva tho.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
I don't agree with that. Only in a few recent fixtures have we really had good showings from all players. Carroll is only now starting to find his form. Suarez played well (pre-ban) but had not been scoring. Downing had been utterly disappointing, Kuyt couldn't give you directions to the opposing goal, Hendo had looked uncomfortable on the right, and Gerrard had been just coming back to full fitness. We have the potential to vastly improve if all of these take a turn for the better.Le Samourai wrote:Hey we have a chance.Things need to go considerably better for us than anyone else though, everyone else is under performing, we're about doing as well as we can with out talent, same as Newcastle basically.

I would even go so far as to say that we are beginning to see signs of some of them turning. Suarez has scored in his first 2 starts since his ban; Downing was immense against Brighton; Carroll has been influential and scored against Brighton; Gerrard is starting to find form after returning; Adam's positional discipline is improving even if his tackling hasn't; and Kuyt has had several important goals for the club. I'm not saying that we are now world-beaters, following the win against Brighton. I'm merely suggesting that we are showing signs of correcting some of the factors that contributed to our less than stellar performances this season. WE have not maxed the potential in this squad, yet. Whether or not we can turn that around in the near future will determine whether we can achieve our goals or not.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
I'm mildly inclined to agree with you on Caroll and well Adam, but I don't think I'll ever cosy up to Downing, and Kuyt isn't talented. They'll both produce , especially Kuyt because of his stellar attitude, but , what we get from them is a bonus.
You look at our season thus far.We have guys like Bellamy(Immensely talented but certainly not a guy we should be relying or dependent upon),Maxi, etc producing alot more than their current condition or talent level should be expected of.
I never think it's realistic to max out the potential of the squad, we don't even have arguably or best player lol, but I don' think we are performing above or below what our talent level suggests.
Which is clearly the case with Arsenal because of injuries and Chelsea for whatever reason.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
i ended up with us still in seventh... granted man city only dropped 2 points the rest of the way, newcastle leapfrogged chelsea and arsenal, and we finished 12 points ahead of 8th, so i might've messed up a little bit.

Re: Remaining Schedules...
I guess it's wide open still, but the annoying, frustrating thing is that we've dropped probably the most points of the top-4 contenders in fixtures that we were really supposed to win.
