Cup Double vs 4th Spot
I was having this argument with a few people.
If you put yourself in shoes of Liverpool, who hasn't won a trophy since August of 2006...........and were presented to pick either a couple double (Carling Cup and FA Cup) or 4th spot finish and back in CL (well Wenger said finishing top 4 is a trophy) .....which one would you pick ?
I said the former, without a blink of an eye........am I stupid or am I indeed a genius ?
I think teams exist to win trophies

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
carling cup isnt really that much of a trophy.. fa cup is important though
however playing to the tune of the cl music is something else.. plus the financial gains of playing in cl and the fact that teams like liverpool should be playing in the biggest club competition perenially
so i would choose ucl

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
very interesting question.
I would like to be in the Top 4 though. For Short term, Cup double is good, but in long term Top 4 finish is better
If we somehow manage to finish in top 4, we can at least try and imrpove the squad ( :lucas: ) for the next season and aim for the Title or something.

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
I'm sure the club would get alot more money from playing in the CL, I would rather have that tbh.

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
Seriously tho i would choose the FA Cup over 4th spot.......
Reason being i have experienced CL football as a Newcastle fan on quite a few occasions but i have never seen my team win a trophy

FA>>>>>>>>> 4th spot
but carling cup is a reserve players cup...not worth imo.

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
You can never forget the magic of the FA cup, but if you take 4th spot you get extra £££££££££££££££ to get a squad good enough to win the FA cup

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
I honestly think Liverpool have a difficult task on their hands to qualify for 4th.
Personally i think they wont.So considering the circumstances i would happy to see Liverpool win some silverware.
Otherwise speaking hypothetically i would rather 4th spot than winning FA cup/Carling Cup.

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
Well it depends,if you're talking about a prestigious team like liverpool getting CL football is a must, but small teams like Arsenal,Aston Villa, etc should go for the FA cup, since they aren't going to do anything in the CL anyways.

Re: Cup Double vs 4th Spot
well let's see
4th spot: you get money, exposure, play against the best teams in europe, attract better players
cup: trophy noone cares about until the semis
i'll take my cl qualification, thanks...

City weren't playing their reserves in the CC semi-final. Neither were Chelsea in the quarters nor Stoke in the round before.
