Marcelo - Our achilles heel?

dont get me wrong but if it wasnt for his attacking abilities which are extremely good i wouldnt want him to start any tough game specially against top top clubs. but since he is able to tottally change our attack's quality by going forward, any of his defensive vunerabilites are acceptable at least for the most

--On the other hand we have coentrao whom his defensive quality is extraordinary plus he is quite good offensivly that he deserves to be a starter at least in important games where our opponent is a quality one

you trust marcelo?
i will be pleased if for the games we r going to play attacking coentrao starts isntead of him since our attack is more than enough to handle any situation

so the way marcelo would be more usefull is to mostly come as a sub considering we are losing and we go full attack for a comeback OR in safe games such us ones against relegation zone teams In My Opinion always

Marcelo is on a run of bad form but i agree that Coentrao defend better than him.

anyway for our LB there is no player better than Marcelo. he is one of our future stars and few bad games will not change that.

Abidal is a rock solid defender,i can count on my fingers the amount of the times ive seen someone get past him

to press Alves back and exploit his weak defense.He hasn't done that but who knows that may be due to injuries.I still think that Arb and Ronaldo on the right and Marcelo and Di maria on the left would be much more effective tin the overall scheme of things.

Contrao is a very solid Lb, you can see it when he is closing spaces in the backline and tracking every attacker that comes from central and wing area.

Not to mention his accurate tackling, the tackling that stopped messi and ineasta on few occations.

Contrao might not be the best defensive LB in the world, but he is very close to them.

Marcelo as a defender sucks especially when he is in bad form, but Marcelo is a very unique attacker. His attacking qualities are almost superior to all other LB's.

But right now i wouldnt play marcelo anywhere in backline. Contrao should play there until marcelo recovers form, and also marcelo can play in midfeild better then contrao.

One, that isn't Huntsman. I reckon this is a new poster and welcome to the forums sir. Also, no I do not think Marcelo is the weak link in the squad. I think the squad in itself can be it's own enemy as I've seen defenders caught out of position on numerous occasions. Midfielders not tracking their man or zonal marking properly, strikers not finishing their chances in games where you need to be clinical.

It's not fair to pin point one player as the weak link when it is a team effort to attack and defend. Now they are games where a player makes a mistake that costs the team dearly but that should not be an indicator that that player is the reason behind the team's faltering ways.

With that being said, not too long ago I would have taken Cole or Lahm easily over Marcelo but I would not be doing that any time soon. I've said this before that it is not whether a player is better than another, it is if said player can be good for the team as what we currently have and Marcelo is great for us. Simple pimple logic really....

If Marcelo does play he needs to attack like he usually does. Last Clasico he didn't really attack much.

Marcelo has been overweight after the holiday break apparently.

Balague says so. Not to mention he has looked slower/fat lately.

Stupid and irresponsable. Needs to get abit bench time.
