Why do germans not play outside of Germany
People always go on about how amazing the German national team and how good their players are.
But it seems like very few of them leave the bundesliga. The only Germans I can think of in the EPL are Rob Huth and Mertesacker.
IIRC there are only 2 in La Liga, not sure about the French or Italian leagues.
The wages in the bundesliga cant be that good, so I dont think its financial.
For a country full of so much exceptional talent you would think Germany would of exported more players to the EPL than the likes of Korea & Croatia.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
They get payed decently, awesome league and I guess most clubs are based in great cities you would love to live in?
Same thing happens in Italy with Italians. Not many play abroad.

Same reason hardly any English players leave England.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
Why don't the English play outside of England? Why don't Italians play outside of Italy? Granted there are more outside than before (Balotelli, Rossi, Santon... anyone else?) but chances are that if you're from Spain, Germany, England or Italy you don't have much of an incentive to move. You already have a top league in your own country. You probably grew up idolizing La Liga, Bundesliga, EPL or Serie A respectively, not other leagues. Your family is in this country, and your chances of being picked for the NT suffer in most cases by moving (unless you're already a star). So why would you move?

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
TBH I think it was just the recent "poop generation" up until about now that didn't find much interest abroad. I expect a lot of German internationals to leave the Bundesliga in the coming years, simply because the stars just are too big for any Bundesliga club but Bayern, unless the Bundesliga as a whole gets much, much richer.
That being said, German players get treated very well in the Bundesliga, just like English players get treated very well in the EPL. German players just have an easier time getting popular with the crowd, just like English players do in the EPL, at least with domestic fans.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
Loads of German stars of the 80's-90's played in Italy.
Come to think of it almost every renowned German player has played outside Germany at some point in his career.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
BTW if you really look at it most Europeans from France/Italy/Spain/England/Germany don't leave their country of origin. Only the absolute beast players do, and only if they can't land a top club at home, or if the biggest club at home isn't big enough for them.
(Meaning Germans only leave if Bayern won't have 'em, or one of the really big guns comes knocking)

how does Bayern have so much power in Germany.. its weird
you have big teams like shcalke, Neverkusen, BVB.. but Bayern seems to have the power for player option

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
1) Bayern have faaaaaaaaaaaar more money than everyone else
2) Bayern always play in the UCL, thus being more attractive for players seeking international experience, which is what you need to get called up for the NT, which is what German players want
Mind you, Bayerns money doesn't come from a sugar daddy, they just got lucky in the '70s with a crop of boss players, ridiculously good leadership, and being smart with their money ever since. And if you're a rich football club it's far easier to stay rich, than to become a rich football club, simply because TV revenue and merchandize hinge on sporting success, which you can, kind of, buy, by buying good players.
Also your youth products don't get poached because you can pay decent wages.
Why do you think people say Barcas youth academy is better than Ajax'? Because Barca don't have to sell anymore.

Good management as well as the largest supporters group in Germany.
They have the prestige and as a result get a large sum of advertising money as well.
But mostly good management.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
Every club wishes they were run like Bayern, but TBH first of all you need a Golden Generation to kickstart you being rich, and then your league needs to be attractive enough to keep your players, and to keep you rich. I'm not entirely sure the Eredevise could deliver on that.

Never understood why Holland could never improve as a league. They promote a good brand and they have good teams with history. (Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Twente recently). Shame really because they don't lack talent.

Re: Why do germans not play outside of Germany
Too few inhabitants to fuel a league that's supposed to have the size and revenue stream of a big 4 league.
Holland just is too small. That's my take on it, at least.
@Barillete: That's what I'm talking 'bout. They can't keep their stars because they don't have enough money, and I don't think that is because they're run badly, it is because there's not enough money to be made in the Eredevise.

Holland has almost 17 million people and Portugal has 11 million. How come Benfica and Porto are better then Feyenoord or Ajax then?^^^^^^^^
