Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
He's never had a great touch. He's 27 now, don't really see him adapting to a new game. He may not have the best of passes, but he can play through balls from time to time. Used to link up with Stevie so well. :\
He f*cked up after his hamstring injury for Spain in the WC. (Think that was his 4th one in total on the same leg.)
You don't see him run any more, it's a joke. He used to be the best striker in the world. He'd score from nothing.
I used to blame owl face, still partly do, he made him play like Zamora at Fulham ffs, but the injuries on the same leg just killed him. His style was based more on the physical side (more pace / acceleration; not a bodybuilder kind XD) and the way he's playing, he's lost confidence in himself. The game against United, bar that miss just took everything away from his performance and hardly got praise for it. That's probably the best performance I've seen him do in a Chelsea shirt. (Tbf, I've only seen around 12 games from his 3x appearences.)
Unless he changes his style, I don't really see him doing well, unfortunately. =\
May get neg rep'd for this, but I see Pato going in the same stage as 'Nando did. But the worst thing is, he's already injury prone at 21 or 22. Injuries are a bitch.

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
Torres problem is mobility, its got nothing to do with system from what I see.
If that's the case why have every single one of our strikers had scoring problems over the past 12-14 months? Drogba, Anelka, Torres, Kalou etc their goal scoring records since the start of last season have all been abysmal. Not saying Torres has been playing great but surely there has to be a middle ground. no? We play at a ridiculously slow pace and that usually results in our CF being double marked whenever we get into the oppositions penalty box. That would be fine if our fullbacks/wide players were actually great crossers of the ball or we had a creative midfielder who could thread a ball through the eye of a needle. Sadly we don't. Even Aguero, Benzema, RVP, Messi etc would struggle in that sort of system.
When he first joined us he was definitely making those runs into space but a combination of players ignoring him (Drogba, Malouda), players not having the ability to play the pass accurately enough and a crappy first touch meant he wasn't getting the chances his movement deserved. He's completely devoid of any confidence so he hasn't been making those runs anymore though.
Yep, his first touch has always been shocking. When he's 100% fit and in form it's usually fantastic but that part of his game is extremely inconsistent. Incredibly frustrating to tell you the truth.
I want you to watch the Sunderland match Dan. You'll definitely notice how slow and lethargic we play. That's of course until we're either a goal down or in need another of goal in the last 20-25 minutes of the game. We'll then overcommit players in search of a goal and concede another soft goal due to an individual defensive error.

He doesnt move like he used to, thats for Chelsea, Spain, whoever. He isnt as fast as in that vid, thats for sure. But also, I wouldnt say lazy, but he doesnt make nearly as many runs as he used to.

Everyone in La Liga said, Torres needs to really work on his first touch and other aspects of his game, because when he loses his speed he is going to struggle. 6-7 years later (sooner than expected) here we are.

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
What happened to Torres? You look at those goals and he had it all: speed, dribling, technique, shot...
I was never a fan of him, he was always linked to Barça and I felt he wasn't suited to our game where there is not space and his ball control has never been the best. However, PL seemed to suit him and now he is finished. Must be the injury toll that has killed his speed and his confidence.

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
^ That's a good point.
He's probably not mentally up for it anymore. Almost as if he's body has had enough.
To the Chelsea fans, how many times per game has he actually sprinted in a game at full speed? (Using you guys as you've seen 3/4 of their matches. Don't take that the wrong way.)

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
I don't know why but I still have faith in him.
I think that he needs to get more involved. Rather than complaining and putting his hands in the air when he loses possession, and by keeping his balance rather than gaining a free kick when tackled

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
Sometimes is best to accept when a players body has given in, his own playing style was detrimental to his physical well being.
All athlete's can suffer the same thing, look at Nadal ,in 08/09 he was unstoppable, but that was because he was pushing his body harder than any one else in his sport, and subsequently suffered many injuries and loss of form since then on, there is no doubt that he is still a top 3 player, but he'll never be able to push himself to that lvl where he won every grandslam within a year and some months.
Torres will never be 'that' Torres again. He can still be a great goal scorer but he needs to alter his game and adapt.

Solid game from Torres.
Ran his socks off, made the right passes and runs, and got himself another assist. He's got his old movement back, just not his finishing.

Re: Torres before he became a playmaker AM.
judging from just watching the video did he score more goals against chelsea than any other club?
particularly his first couple years it looked like he only scored against chelsea.
but man what a player he was and how far he has fallen. he was almost untouchable in 08
