Do you want Cahill to be Alex's replacement should Alex leave?

Gary Cahill named England vice-captain and will take the armband whenever Wayne Rooney is absent:
The Chelsea defender says it is 'a huge honour' to succeed the now-retired Frank Lampard in the role
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gary-cahill-england-vice-captain-take-4191325
-

"The manager pulled me the other day after training and told me. It was a proud moment. Last week against Norway was the first time I’d worn the armband. I know it was the last few minutes of a friendly but it still meant a hell of a lot to me."

"Wayne is the captain and he’s got everyone’s support but for me to get the vice-captain role."

"I’ve seen it happen in the past that through injuries, suspensions or whatever that you do get the chance to lead them out would be a dream come true."

"In terms of experience, I’m probably up there with a few of the others and everyone else is young and just starting out on their careers for England and in the Premier League."

Gary Cahill closing in on lucrative new Chelsea deal:
England star Gary Cahill, who was named Three Lions vice-captain this week, has less than three years left on his current deal, and is expected to follow in the steps of Thibaut Courtois and Cesar Azpilicueta by extending his stay with the London side

Best moment in his career: Chelsea boss Mourinho hails new England vice-skipper Cahill:
José Mourinho believes Gary Cahill is at the climax of his career to date, and reckons Roy Hodgson has chosen well in picking him as his new England vice-captain
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/399527/He-s-in-the-form-of-his-life-Chelsea-boss-Mourinho-hails-new-England-vice-skipper-Cahill

"He's a very mature player. I think he's in the best moment of his career."

"I think for England he is central defender they trust, and as vice-captain they know when he has the armband he will behave in the right way."

Meh. Kos, Chambers and Welbeck should have been sent off. Wenger too.

You either send them all off, or let it go.

This guy is shit. Biggest weak link in the team and a massive fraud which looked decent next to Terry last year. If he wasn't english he wouldn't be here

What an absolute Clown. This shit head and Ivanovic should just retire. They have been the weak link all year. Signing a CB should be top priority. What a bloody Clown

So, Gary has broken his nose after the second punch to the face this season, so he'll wear a mask for the next few weeks.

Cahill has signed a new 4 year deal with Chelsea. http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34989070

Age shouldn't really be a concern for him as a CB so a longer deal like this makes sense. I know he's divided opinions in his time at Chelsea though so how do you all feel about it? Glad to have a bit of positive news? Upset at the deal? Not arsed in the slightest?

I think most of us were indifferent but leaning towards disappointment when we heard he signed for the club few years ago. Then he went on to prove us wrong with his reliability especially in the big games.

Personally, I'm happy he renewed his contract. He's 5 years younger than Terry and would still have a good part to play over the coming years.
