So who would be in the line ups and which line up is better in your opinion?

Can you really consider Eto'o a player from Castilla? reading the wikipedia page of eto'o, I don't think that he actually ever played for Castilla. Real Madrid B were relegated to the 3rd division where none no-european are allowed to play, so Real Madrid had to loaned him to CD Leganés.

So I am not sure if you can consider him a player from their youth academy..

And also didn't Real Madrid buy Hierro from Valladolid?

Hierro wasnt our product, and while Etoo might not have played for Castilla (unsure about this), he was definately from our youth system, which is what I guess he means.

Eto'o was our youth we had him when he was in the 10th grade and was loaned out, not sold. He even played for our 1st team so I don't know why he would not be qualified for being a Castilla.

Seriously can't remember any defenders from our castilla. Put Bernabeu there instead who scored 69 goals in 78 games for us.

It says on wikipedia that he only trained with Castilla but after they were relegated to Segunda B, he was loaned out to leganes and when he came back he was loaned out to espanyol

Im just not sure if I would classify a player who has not played a game and only trained a few times(my guess) with castilla as a youth player.

What a nice fail we have here folks. Puyol joined La Masia at 17.

Problem with saying Eto is a Castilla product is the fact that it really is stretching it to its limit considering Eto really got his football education at Mallorca, not Real Madrid.

Not really my best work but several things:
1) How could anyone forget Jose Antonio Camacho came from Castilla?
2) Hierro is not from Castilla, he is by and large a Malaga product
3) Both Barca and Real barely produce plenty centre backs.
4) This match would probably end up in a fight. Camacho didn't play nice at all...

raul joined us 16 and many dont even count him as a Madrid youth product..

Marcelo joined us when he was 18 is he a madrid youth now?

Wouldn't be easier if we consider a youth team-er someone who rose through the ranks of club (from youth team to senior side)?

LM needs to clarify what is considired a youth or not... If we go according the Wikipedia page, Eto'o is Castilla. He played for us when he was a kid, but wasn't able to later, but still did, and rose to the 1st team where he played 3 games before getting sold.

Anyways, what is youth and what is not? It's hard to make a XI when some are not considered youth apparently...

Puyol made near 100 appearances I believe for Barcelona B, he is indeed La Masia product.


If a player played at the Castilla for atleast 6 months we can call him a Castilla player and vice versa for La Masia, does that sound fair?

Raul is Madrid youth anyway you look at it. Also no mention of Gallego? He was great.

Goalkeepers, no. There haven't been a single good GK made from La Masia before Valdes. Sadurni, Zamora and Ramallets, though catalans and the best goalkeepers in Spain historically aside from the Basque GKs, were not from Barça youth.

Strikers, you could probably include Josep Samitier or Paulino Alcantara as Barça products, but really, these guys played so many years ago that no one really knows how good they were.

Another option would be put Messi as striker, Iniesta in the wings and Cesc or Guardiola as midfielder. Iniesta in the wings declines a bit, but I think he still edges some wing players from la Masia such as Amor or Lobo Carrasco.
