he played as a CM in a 3 man midfield in the u20 WC. he was playing almost a Pirlo-esque DM role vs Spain.he played as a winger/AM in the u20 Copa America in 2010

You would know more than I would, Ganso, but I've read several analytical assessments of him saying that he has played in that position before with moderate efficacy. It's also pointed out often in these pieces that when Modric was at Dinamo and at the time he first came to England, he was a more attack-minded player usually, like Oscar, functioning as a number 10. They also make the correlation between him and Modric that there have been uncertainties over Oscar's size, build, and durability, just as there were with Modric when he first arrived in England.

Like I said, you would know far more than I do, but at 20, is it really unfeasible to think he could be molded into a different player in the same way so many before him have? I mean, if the old basset hound Redknapp could do it so successfully with Modric, could it not be done with Oscar? Cause I really can't see, with all the other advanced, attacking players we've brought in (with even more yet being targeted), any other reason in investing so much money in him unless it is indeed to be gradually molded into the deep-lying playmaker we so badly need.

Its not about fielding the best players we have all at once. The 4-3-2-1 will force Ramires and Oscar to do a lot defensively, and they are too far back to contribute to attack on the counter; this will be visible during the latter period of most games IMO

Using this formation in the EPL where wingers are running riot would be a risk
