Getting Videos off Youtube/Converting

Hey guys.

Straight forward question. My old system doesn't seem to work anymore...

I used to normally get FLV files through simply going to 'Window'>'Activity'>'*filename*' and then I'd have to convert it using Handbrake. It would convert it into a workable MP4 format. However, now... when I add the flv file to Handbrake it does not recognise the file it says 'No Valid File Found'. Basically this means I can't make videos anymore because I can't get footage anymore. Very frustrating...

I need a new way or a solution to this problem. How do you other guys get videos off youtube?

Well I have an extension on Chrome which just pulls the files off in a number of different formats :L
Or you could try Orbit Video Downloader, or whatever they call themselves.

First, get the latest RealPlayer update, or download RealPlayer if you don't have it.

Then whenever you're viewing a YT video, whenever you put your mouse on the video, in the top right corner of the vid says "Download this video" with a RealPlayer icon next to it. Click on that, and then you begin downloading.

Once the download is finished, to convert it from .flv to .mp4, just put your mouse on the download, and you'll find a little button that says "Convert" > Convert To > Apple iPod > OK > Start. When the converting is done, you'll find the video on iTunes in the .mp4 format. Hope I helped

Damn... this sounded like a good solution to my problem. Again, it all works up until the conversion point. When I click convert it begins but then stops and says 'error, failed'. I fear its something to do with changed coding of YT vids or something... I have no idea what to do... Very annoying, I was keen to make a Classico vid.

Any other suggestions? Maybe you could test these for yourself.

That doesn't help at all. I can easily download the videos, the problem is converting them. I've tried a few programs now and they all crash during conversion... No idea what has happened...

Kizz, the extension gives you the option to download in .mp4 I think :L.

I don't know how to use that extension... Didn't really seem to download at all.

OH WAIT, THERE'S A BUNCH OF SETTINGS YOU HAVE TO PLAY AROUND WITH FIRST.

If it does work, please give me a step by step process.

Works for me on Chrome :L
I'm not sure how Safari works, but you'll have to go into the extension settings, and somewhere in there will be an option to enable 'Create download links' :L

dud just got to the youtube vid you want to download, start playiing it and then in the adress bar type the word "kiss" before youtube and thne hit enter, itll take you to a site that will donwload that video for you

OMFG Fatman I knew there would be a simple solution I just didn't know of. It appears being fat pays off for something at least (I kid, I kid ).

Thanks for your suggestion also Lex, but Fatman's is a little more simple. Unfortunately a gooner is trumped again in the final third by their rivals.
