Edit: Not to mention Terry as a top 5 CB. OK... going to stop reading the post now lol.
I did mention Terry, he's under Puyol. And what's wrong with Villa? His goal scoring record is insane and he was great at the WC.

weren't exactly some of the best in the world since 4 years ago.
Neuer's been great the past 3 or so seasons, Marcelo is in because I ran out of left backs, Pique same as Neuer and Ozil is just immense.

Which is one of the problems of a top 5 or top 3. Some positions have way more candidates than others.
If Ozil is there because he is immense I don't see why RVP should not be there. I consider Rooney to be world class and he deserves a spot too. It just doesn't work.

Yeah, I said that was a problem. Especially with CM and Forwards.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
To be world class you must first have David Luiz's hairstyle.
Therefore, Luiz, Colocini and Puyol are all world class.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
Honestly, someone becomes world class when the general ideology which guides the forum feels like elevating them to that level.
For example:
>Luka Modric is world class.....yet Wilshire isn't.
>Aguero is world class..........yet no one even knows who Jovetic is.
World class is an empty phrase with no meaning and is entirely subjective and biased.

Re: Official Definition of World Class
Its not about that Lex.......
The only place RVP comfortably fits is Messi's position and that aint happening....
outwide Barca players are asked to press, pull full backs to create space for Messi and make runs in behind.
RVP will do none of that, its not about quality its about does said player fit the role required of him and he doesnt.
which is why this walk into any side thing doesnt work, every side is different and have different ways of playing and requirements and roles to fill and certain players no matter how good they are wont fit.
Ibra being the case in point.

RVP can play in pedro's position if he's willing to work hard enough.

barca 2011 wrote:In your opinion, how many players, in active terms, would you include per position? I know we haven't actually attained those figures, but just given today's footballers.Tomasso wrote:World-class is a temporary state awarded through exceeding a set-standard of above average performance in a particular position.
You'd need to define what attributes and skills are important for each position. Then you'd have to define statistics based on those attributes.
Example: For a striker, Goals/Minutes ratio would be one such statistic. First, you define what the average is for strikers in leagues that are equal in competitiveness. Then you mark what above-average is. Anybody who gets a higher ratio than above-average could be world class. Of course, there would be other statistics for relevant for each position, then you just compare everybody at the end. Then you can say the top 3,5, 10 - whatever - are world-class.
I would include all the players who play in that position in top flight leagues. It would be long and tedious to attain, but once we had those figures an objective "world-class" system could be created.

BarrileteCosmico wrote:I'm rather annoyed at the phrase "world class" and how it's being thrown around so often lately. So we're going to define it, once in for all, and vote on the "best" definition for the meaningless phrase. After that, the phrase will only be used with that definition in mind in the context of the forum.
So here's the first step: Define World Class.
can put their name in top 5 players in their position .

Re: Official Definition of World Class
my opinion
world class players are players that can step up to any given situation ( especially clutch) and influence the game massively on a continuous bases

dnmac4 wrote:IMO, the best definition is if someone asks you or says is player x world class and an immediate yes doesn't pop in you head or come out of your mouth then the answer is no. If you have to think about it at all then IMO that player is not world class.
You can't really do it by position because some positions have a good amount of WC players and some only have a few.
That's too subjective.
But I agree with the second paragraph.
