PS3 issue

Recently my PS3 started to switch off on its own and the Red standby light keeps flashing until I press the power button.

It happens once or twice a day while starting a game at first and then doesn't occur again.

I heard that its because the hard disk is failing and can be repaired by changing the hard disk.

I'm planning to buy Skyrim and some more games soon

could be a heating fault that happened to me a month or two ago....

has your ps3 cooling fan been loud as of recently? if yes then its probably the problem and u will need to clean the dust out of ur ps3.

^^ yep, most likely that. Make sure you clean the dust off your PS3 and make sure you place it in an area where the fans won't be blocked or have anything in it's way.

yea make sure that all the sides of your ps3 are at least 10 cm's away from any big surface most problematic are the back and left side of the ps3(the side closest to the red light) since air exits the ventilation system and if its blocked your heat transfer will be massively stalled.

also may i add that if your ps3 is considerably old as mine is(5 years) you should consider changing the thermal paste on the processor as it tends to lose its conductivity through the years also lowering heat transfer rate... but this i wouldnt recommend doing at home, at least send it to a pc repair shop or a legit ps3 repair shop. thermal paste for ps3's has to be more conductive than for pc's so make sure you tell them that as well if they dont already know.

I've never cleaned the interior of the PS3 for the 3 years I had it and its been in a very closed space for a very long time so I think you are right about the dust generated inside

There is no fan sound while playing but just before the game shuts down on its own I do hear a sound

the main issue here is that you purchaced a PS3

I've finally given my PS3 to Sony for repair. THey said its a common issue and it surviving is 50-50
