Re: Juventus v. Palermo Preview
Nice post Luca; the video brings back memories.
I wish Juventus still had some of those players like Criscito, Marchionni etc.
Obviously Nedved and Trezeguet and Camoranesi, but they are retired, or at discrete clubs, respectively.

No love lost for Marchionni but agreed
That year was pretty magical
Not a great team by any means but a few great individuals
Alex 21 goals
Trezeguet 20 goals
Nedved, Camoranesi, Chiellini, Buffon, Giovinco, Criscito (briefly)
Then players like Legro, Grygera, Salhimabadzic, Marchionni, Tiago

Exactly. And I would keep Marchionni as a very deep player in that he would play if it were absolutely necessary, almost as a compliment to Pazienza. He would have been formidable in emergency, or even if Juventus were to play in Europe in my opinion, though he is nowhere near a first team player.
The legendary five were the focal point; Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluigi Buffon, Pavel Nedved, David Trezeguet, and Mauro Camoranesi. What a squad.

Thats true, I would have rather seen Palladino get some chances at that point in time.
Also looking back, its sad that Ranieri has been the only manager to recognize Giovinco's talent thus far, disgusting actually.
Would have loved to see Criscito retained and proper players brought in after Nedved, Camoranesi, Trezeguet (although Quagliarella and Matri came just after him, they do not compare to Trezegol but they have been quite fantastic for Juventus)
That team had champions

Very few would ever match them, I am afraid. Nedved won a Ballon d'Or for God's sake, Camoranesi was heavily underrated in my opinion but was a player who gave his all and broke his back for the squad, and was talented to boot, Trezeguet for me is a top three poacher of all time and yes, it is refreshing to have Quagliarella and Matri, but nobody compares.
Ranieri was a very good coach, and should not have been blamed and subsequently fired.

Re: Juventus v. Palermo Preview
That was an awful, AWFUL decision
Juventus did not possess the depth to win the scudetto, that is not a fault of Ranieri
Not to mention the talent of those 5 was dwindling

Re: Juventus v. Palermo Preview
Luca, I agree completely. I prefer Conte, but still, these last few years, Ranieri would have no doubt made Juventus more competitive.
Also, I like Lorenzo De Silvestri on right-back. Twenty-three year old from Fiorentina who is very talented. He would not come on the cheap as Fiorentina are rivals, naturally, but nonetheless, he would be my first pick.
But Caceres is very good as well.

I actually rate De Silvestri highly so I like the name drop, would take him in a heart beat- but I do like what Lichtsteiner does for Juventus
He is keeping Cassani on the bench after all

Lichsteiner is pretty good, but I think De Silvestri would be better integrated and he possesses a lot more talent in my honest opinion. Plus, he is younger as well.

Re: Juventus v. Palermo Preview
Definitely more talent, definitely the ambition because he is younger
Lichtsteiner in Conte's Juventus is perfect though, so I cannot complain
I wish his crossing was better, it has been poor
Other than that, no complaints with his play

Agreed. Started well with a goal v. Parma to open the season as well.
